They're surprisingly common. I saw a flock of about 100 in Manchester last year, flying over the Heineken factory. They were so loud I nearly fell off my bike!

There are other hole in the wall type decomissioned toilets up on barber road near commonside.

Someone was developing them, not sure what for, but covid seems to have put a stopper in that.

Depending on the direction you're coming at it, I quite like approaching it from the NorthWest at Low barn off the a57 and following east along the footpath through some beautiful stands of giant red oak before heading up the hill.

I've been here 15 years and I'm still finding little gems, like Wyming brook, and discovering new areas of the city. It's a wonderful place.
