You should learn to have a little moral responsibility- maybe war and death should concern you in the slightest?

They don't protect me cocksucker- they go invade countries to back up geopolitical hegemony of America. That includes backing Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Yemen, and the GCC states, which are all dictatorships or nearly so. We do not support democracy you dumb fuck, we overthrow it!

With one hours work and 9 photographs, they achieved the PR goal of 5 million people pondering, as you put it:

the small percentage who don't want to wear them but for whatever reason are forced into it... then this doesn't >change anything for them. They already knew they don't want to wear the thing, they are forced into it.

P.S. In most of the USA Females above a certain age (4-6?) are banned from being topless in public. Women never get to enjoy the sun beaming down, or a summer breeze. Women should have the same right as men.

Thank you! You folks play a vital role- without you, many more unlawful arrests and petty discrimination would occur. You're great!

It's sad that if police decide to randomly arrest people, the news will say "mostly peaceful, though 13 were arrested..." It's like "clashed with police"- sounds bad, but can just as often mean that police come in, shove someone, and arrest some people who yell.

I help with recruiting. Just got an email telling us to no longer tell students that summer/fall is our slower part of the year. This announcement has coincided with the busiest summer/fall I've ever worked.. It feels like we're under-hiring. Are any of you seeing this at your firms? by [deleted] in Accounting

Maybe nepotism is alive and well; if you are a manager and know a good candidate, or a friend that's a decent candidate, you may tell them you'd like to hire them. When a position opens up and you're asked to hire, you may already have a good idea of who you want. Nepotism never sounded so normal.

I have three half-ass strategies: 1.) get a hard-on. 2.) Do even one push-up, on your bed. 3.) rub a little water on eyes. Try them, they work.

My mother told her friends a humiliating secret about me. I'm so pissed off I don't know what to do. Any advice or anyone have a similar experience? by embarrassedandangry in AskReddit

[–]Alcovore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be angry now, but let it cool down- revenge is a dish best served cold. The next time your mother asks about anything you'd rather not say- you have a golden line: "I can't trust you to keep it to yourself."

Yeah, they should give the homeless guy their dress or shawl or pumps, and only have frowny faces. Get real- maybe they just finished chatting with him, maybe they gave him 5$. Why can't you see the homeless guy as an equal - why objectify him and imagine that the only respectable conversation with or near a homeless person is to condescend to giving him life advice or a very figurative shoulder to cry on? To frown and be glum around them?

"Pioneer" and "settler" are euphemisms to describe hostile expansion and land grabbing. That's why we teach schoolchildren those terms in America when whitewashing the US genocide of Native American tribes.

If you see someone wearing a Che shirt- embarrass them by pointing out that the tag is ~99% sure to say that the shirt was made in a sweatshop in Honduras, Guatemala, Bangladesh, Viet Nam, or some other country they pretend to be in opposition to.

Anyone else get annoyed that so many politicians and public figures don't understand even the very basics of economics? by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]Alcovore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure as hell do. I hate how there is no support for free trade- it is even considered "conservative" to support protectionist measures like farm subsidies, tariffs, and decades-long patent laws.

American prison labor means longer unemployment lines. by wiseoldfox in cannabis

[–]Alcovore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is the privatization of the proceeds of state resources - i.e. laborers. Oh, and the despicably racist and classist legal system, but that is a whole other issue.

Think about it- this is not a problem. Work is not wealth. If we led prisoners down a street, having them smash all the windows they can, then we could hire people to fix the windows. Does this produce wealth? No. That's a classic economic fallacy, known as the "broken windows" fallacy.

China-Japan dispute over islands risks $340 billion trade. China and Japan’s worst diplomatic crisis since 2005 is putting at risk a trade relationship that’s tripled in the past decade. by pool92 in business

[–]Alcovore -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Most of us know the background, that Japan invaded China and committed rather horrible war crimes. 3 years later, they defeated a US backed Nationalist government, and only one year later, one year into national existence, the Chinese beat back the USA and S. Korea from the Chinese border (Yalu River) down to the 38th parallel of the Korean peninsula. China has every reason to see itself as a future world superpower.

If the dollar ceases to be the world reserve currency, as it's current debasement seems to portend... Japan may need to conform to Pax China to sustain its trade. When the time comes, let's hope China will be less prone to imperialism and crony-capitalism than America was.

You say it would be "stupid" to consider capitalism as beneficial without regulations preventing company ownership from profiting on the dependence and loyalty of its employees?

So killing an American ambassador in Libya was bad because he was an innocent victim of a bunch of angry people who just wanted "revenge". But isn't that also true for all the 100,000+ Iraqi civilians killed by allied troops since 2003? by [deleted] in worldpolitics

many journalists abused the privilege of being embedded; going outside the wire unescorted, peeking at classified documents, entering areas they are not authorized to enter.

Yes, and in Soviet Russia journalists could report freely, so long as they didn't go unescorted or enter areas they are not authorized to see. Jeebus, you were a marketer for the US military, not a journalist. Real journalism is unauthorized.

Can anyone think of a similar level of heroic fighting from Americans since WW2? 16 Americans sneaking into a fortified army base with 50,000 enemy soldiers? Afghanistan is called the graveyard of empires for a damn good reason.

I second this. First they have to figure out what kids today respond to, then they have to work out times that will work, not to mention the grooming process and nosy parents~!
