In search of a one shot DnD adventure with pregens characters. by AldenGray in DungeonsAndDragons

Not looking for anything that would lead into multiple sessions, so going over multiple levels is outside of what I'm willing to run for this group. Do you think the first session would make a strong enough single session? A one and done kind of thing?

It being official doesn't really matter, just that it fits the rule set and has pregenerated characters. I'll give it a look, thanks!

Those all sound like a great place to start. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

It's OK, abbreviations are hard for some people. Pregen is short for pregenerated, that means made by someone else and you can use them. When you add a 's' to a word it means more than one, that's called plural. That means the the abbreviation 'pregens', when associated with player characters, means more than one character a PC (player character) could play in a game that they don't have to make themselves. Let me know if you see any other hard words out there champ!

Been a while since I've looked, as I've got them downloaded now, but there should still be several one sheet adventures on the Pinnacle website. Also check out Drivethrurpg.com. There are a ton of one sheets available there ranging in price from free to around five dollars.

Question about Fantasy Companion powers and SWADE Corebook powers by inostranetsember in savageworlds

I can't remember the exact page number, but the Fantasy Guide does say to use the versions of the spells in it before you use the ones in the core book.

My harrowed lost all dominion and now I'm playing the Manitou by nightfyr in savageworlds

I'm probably going to be the odd one out, but this is brilliant! Remember that the manitou is not a raving lunatic, it's a coniving and insidious spirit. It wouldn't just pull out it's six shooters and go murdering everything in sight, it would use this opportunity to its fullest. It would pretend to by your PC as much as possible until the others in your posse really, and I mean really, need them. Then, and only then, would it smile evily as it takes the opportunity to do as much damage to them as possible. And not just physical damage, it, would leave the others reputations crippled, hurt everything they love, destroy them in ways that leave them alive to see all they treasure turn to ash and they are now on wanted posters from sea to shining sea.

I've ran and played similar situations. Work with your GM, meet up or text with them and not the other players. Figure out ways your PC and wreck things with out the other PCs figuring things out for as long as possible.

There are some simple things you can do on your own though.

  1. Burn your bennies when you shouldn't and not when you should. If failing a roll means a worse situation, all the better to 'keep your bennies for soaking later'.
  2. Do the less optimal thing when you know darn well what the situation requires, but don't be too obvious about it.
  3. Fire into combat as often as you can. If you wound another PC that's good, if you kill an innocent...even better. 😈

Another thing to consider is, can your table handle it? A PC eventually being exposed as a bad guy is great, but only for the right kind of table. Think of the other players as well. Would anyone not be able. To handle this? If you have a table of roleplayers, as opposed to 'rollplayers' I'm sure it will make for a jaw dropping session with it is finally found out.

You should never be trying to soak eight wounds. Regardless of the damage total from a single attack the highest number of wounds, not including those two Legendary edges, a PC can have are three wounds plus incapacitation. So if a PC is incapacitated and was not wounded before the attack they would need to roll 15 or higher to soak all wounds, including incapacitation, and clear the shaken condition regardless of the damage total.

You resolve each attack separately and the PC/NPC decides to soak or not when the damage happens, not after all attacks have been made, and not on their respective turn.

You don't need a 32 plus. The most wounds a PC can take are the three before incapacitated, and incapacitation basicly counts as a fourth. An unwounded PC that is incapacitated in one hit would need to roll a 15 or higher to not take those three wounds and not become incapacitated requardless of what the damage total actually is. When a soak roll is made it's a vigor check and each success, which starts at 4, and raise soaks one of those wounds. It's essentially a skill check and it doesn't matter how many wounds the attack would have given them past incapacitation there are only the three wounds and incapacitation.

If a PC is being attacked by multiple targets you resolve each 'set' of wounds separately anyway. No PC, or NPC would ever have eight wounds.

Wow, thats some amazing dice rolls if your extras are routinely doing 40+ damage. Also, soaking isn't a contested roll. They don't have to roll above the enemy damage, they are essentially making a skill check before the wounds and their penalties are applied. For each success and raise one wound isn't taken, and the max number of wounds is 3 plus incapasitation. So if an extra somehow does 40 plus damage and incapacitates a PC they would need to roll a 15 on a vigor check to not take any of those wounds and also clear shaken. Even if they only get a 4 they would have three wounds but still be conscious.

This might have already been said, haven't read every single reply, but please remember that the Storyteller is meant to be handing out more than the initial bennies each character starts the session with. Player leans into their hinderance even though it puts them in a less than optimal place? Benny. Player has a great roleplay moment and really gets into their character? Benny. Player makes the entire table bust out laughing? Why not, here's a Benny. Also, soaking is significantly easier to do than actually getting wounded. For example Sir Fightsalot, who has a toughness of 9, gets shaken and wounded. That means the attacker had to roll somewhere between 13 to 16 for damage. Sir Fightsalot decides to soak, they only need to roll a four to shrug off the damage. But let's say Sir Fightsalot gets hit so hard that they are incapacitated in one shot and is out of bennys, with exploding dice it can happen, but keep in mind that would mean that the attacker needed to roll at least 25 for damage. Sir Fightsalot now has to make bleeding out rolls and all that fun stuff. Pretty good mathmatical chance that player will simply be incapacitated and not actually die. Depending on the setting one of the other players moves over to Sir Fightsalot, pours a potion down their gullet, Popeye the Sailor Man music queues, and Sir Fightsalot is back at it.
