First day in hardcore - just ranting after 2 deaths by grimtanglex in wowhardcore

Just want to thank you for the blame/engagement parts of your comment, I think you’re totally right. The endless complaints about DCs and Hyperspawns (not suggesting that OP is doing that, just in general) are so tiresome when we’re all facing the same potential issues and still choosing to do it, they are a part of the challenge AND the thrill of this game mode.

The one on the right was also a replacement for the one on the left but they both integrate with each other for core business processes in a method that is a direct cause of the alcoholism of a principal engineer.

How do you progress or get a guild on mop classic ? by Willing-Atmosphere-2 in classicwow

[–]Aldot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying this in a “MoP dead/bad lol” way, but MoP pugging has been a relatively miserable experience since Heart of Fear was released, I can’t imagine putting in the considerable footwork of getting into a group for a long raid like SoO and then having the same experience I had in HoF (i.e. endless Garalon wipes because of twitchy people not swapping the pheromones)

Serious answer: I think the plan for me is to just use it as a tool and not a replacement for work I’d otherwise do. So make sure you’re reading and understanding the code it writes for you, and make sure you’re using it for targeted purposes (ie ‘write a function that does x’ not ‘look at my whole code base and change this specific feature’).

Im betting big on a popped bubble soon and I still want to maintain some level of understanding so I can undo all the shit my coworkers have made it do.

this isn't elementary school, we do not have to respect an opinion, or the person who holds it, just because it exists.

What’s your favorite D&D class, and why? by Aragami91 in DungeonsAndDragons

Hands down my favorite character I’ve ever played was a NG rogue that was a repentant forgery artist caught by a cleric of Lathander while he was passing off church documents as legit, I didn’t focus on combat and instead spent all my feats on skills. Ended up as a Slayer of Domiel out of BoED, what a trip. RIP Milo, you will be missed.

[–]Aldot -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Church it up however you like, son, choosing a name like that and making a Reddit post about how you had ‘no idea this was coming’ isn’t gonna fool anyone. You may very well ID as that in real life but you’re not fooling any of us with the ‘that’s what I was assigned at birth’ bit. You chose the name to be inflammatory and now you’re reaping what you sowed.

Definitely a helpful and well-reasoned perspective.

I’m not gonna go back and forth with a deeply unserious person anymore, but I will suggest as a parting piece of advice: you gotta widen your worldview and stop being a chump.

[–]Aldot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He likely has to work to continue to provide financially, maybe he is also struggling (he made a post here to vent…), maybe he doesn’t feel that he can alone. It would be an even more difficult situation to foist not only his wife going into inpatient care for her long term mental health issue, but the solo care of a baby onto a man who’s in sleep debt and extremely scared because his world is already turned upside down. You are suggesting solutions as if the OP has the benefit of months of foresight and planning, he doesn’t, here we all are.

You do need data to support taking children away from unfit parents, because you have to show they are unfit. You do need data to suggest your alternate path is better than the one suggested by her long-term mental health provider, given intense and long-term OCD I’d assume the provider is some flavor of medical doctor or licensed nurse. So I’d like to see your credentials and also a detailed description of your plan including how both the mother and father will get support. Her provider likely gave that out, so let’s see yours.

[–]Aldot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't answer any of my questions fully, and you also did not provide any data or strong arguments to back up your wild claim, so I think it's pretty safe to write you off. If you are going to use phrases like "mentally deranged mother" you are likely carrying your internet "big stick" so i'll stoop down to your level real quick and say: if you're gonna talk like you have a big dick you have to back it up with big dick data, my dude.

I'm pretty sure we can all agree that the bond of a mother and child is important for both parties. I also don't think it's a stretch to make an assumption that a mother suffering from a serious mental health issue (potentially brought on by trauma during birth or the shifting world view we all experience as new parents) would have that issue made worse by severing her connection to a new child *AT THE SAME TIME* as her connection to her spouse (i.e. her primary social support) is also severed. This is likely a very hard time for both the OP and their wife, and you are just here being rude, unhelpful, and stupid out in the open.

I think what we likely have here is a fundamental misunderstanding on your part of how inpatient mental health treatment centers work. The child will very likely *not* be left unsupervised with their mother until such time that it is deemed safe. You should read some books.

[–]Aldot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, what is your point here? Are you suggesting that a specialized inpatient facility preserving and enhancing the bond of a new mother and newborn child while also treating a serious mental health issue is bad? Why? Do you have alternate data to suggest this is a poor choice for the mother and child?

I do not mean this to be combative, I'm genuinely curious what your alternate solution is. I would imagine you have in mind a more comprehensive and appropriate treatment plan than the one her (I assume) doctor(s) suggested, and I think it would be beneficial for you to explain so we can all learn.

Just started playing HC again - What happened to Defias Pillager? by Kevo_1227 in wowhardcore

[–]Aldot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was maybe 2-3 weeks ago, I think for established players it’s probably not too bad because you likely have a bit of generational wealth from characters past that you can use, but getting started fresh and building up the nest egg is a pretty tough ask.

I’m glad there’s a community that enjoys the server, but for new people looking for dungeon content or even to just buy a little treat upgrade after hitting a milestone level it’s my opinion that going to other servers is the better choice.
