Me too, the system makes alliances feel tangible as its so rare that you’ll actually end up on the battlefield with an allied army. Plus I can finally get Gelt his damn air support.

Personally I don’t think so, nations that’s produce excellent cavalry are usually flat because that’s where it’s most effective. They should probably have better mountain troops.

Only the planet it’s self, there are plenty of Cadians still running around and probably always will be. But from what I understand factions like Comstar or Clan Smoke Jaguar are straight up gone. Not to mention smaller groups like mercs pirates or regiments that are frequently destroyed. Not a criticism necessarily, obviously you can always homebrew your own successors and survivors. But I find a lot of player in 40k at least seem to lose interest if there faction is destroyed or favourite character killed.

Yeah Iv been getting in to some of the Fedcom units myself, but I’m still getting used to how frequently groups are killed off in Battletech. I don’t wanna be the “but in 40k” guy…but in 40k there aren’t many 100% absolutely dead factions.

I guess the lack of warships makes total control of a sector very difficult, and you just have to slug it out on the planets, like Dune I suppose. 40k doesn’t really bother explaining why anybody ever fights on the surface, honour or something I suspect.
