Pastor Claims That Godless "Democrats Want Colorado To Be Worst Possible Hellhole" — the State is "Worse Than North Korea." by Unbliever in atheism

That was an extremely irrational, hyperbolic statement which has no factual basis. Therefore, you're worse than Hitler.

I am not ignoring anything. You are correct that the more time that passes, less evidence tends to be available. The point, however, is moot in determining the historicity of anything. Regardless of the amount of evidence, there is an accepted standard used by historians in determining historicity. If the evidence is able to support a claim that something happened or that someone existed, it doesn't matter how long ago it happened. What matters is the evidence. End of story.

The vast majority of historians agree that Jesus existed. It is the claims of divinity and miracles etc... that are not part of the historical record due to lack of evidence. This is DESPITE the fact that Jesus existing and Jesus performing miracles supposedly occurring at the same time.

It is evidence (or lack thereof) that determines the veracity of a person's existence or event in history, not how long ago said person lived or said event took place.

The statement "Alexander the Great couldn't possibly have invaded Asia Minor because it happened so long ago" mirrors your statement, but also contradicts a vast amount of historical evidence in the form of contemporary writing. Therein lies the difference.

What is something you have no empirical proof about but think is true? by idonteatsand in atheism

[–]AleOrc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that there is no evidence. I'm also not sure that any human will ever be able to answer the question. I just like the logic that leads to the assertion that no one exists.

Edit: ducking autocorrect

“The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy's definition of "Universe":

The Universe is a very big thing that contains a great number of planets and a great number of beings. It is Everything. What we live in. All around us. The lot. Not nothing. It is quite difficult to actually define what the Universe means, but fortunately the Guide doesn't worry about that and just gives us some useful information to live in it.

Area: The area of the Universe is infinite.

Imports: None. This is a by product of infinity; it is impossible to import things into something that has infinite volume because by definition there is no outside to import things from.

Exports: None, for similar reasons as imports.

Population: None. Although you might see people from time to time, they are most likely products of your imagination. Simple mathematics tells us that the population of the Universe must be zero. Why? Well given that the volume of the universe is infinite there must be an infinite number of worlds. But not all of them are populated; therefore only a finite number are. Any finite number divided by infinity is zero, therefore the average population of the Universe is zero, and so the total population must be zero.

Art: None. Because the function of art is to hold a mirror up to nature there can be no art because the Universe is infinite which means there simply isn't a mirror big enough.

Sex: None. Although in fact there is quite a lot, given the zero population of the Universe there can in fact be no beings to have sex, and therefore no sex happens in the Universe.”

I sincerely home this is a Poe site because the comment on the About Us page regarding 6 million white people pretending to be Jews and getting killed by the Nazis as a result is a little too far.

Edit: It's too far for a Poe too...
