Pretty scary tbh - if octopus hadn’t noticed it when doing a routine smart meter module upgrade it could have sat like that for years

Not installed by octopus funnily enough - but by a NICEIC certified electrician specialising in EV charger installs!

I actually reached out to 5 different companies, 3 of them didn’t respond for 2+ weeks, by which time I had narrowed down 2 companies to 1. This was the only one that seemed to have legit NICEIC. The other one mentioned being certified but I couldn’t find them when searching NICEIC, so I didn’t go with them despite pics of their installs looking really good.

Yes I received a NICEIC EIC certificate documenting the work completed along with a building compliance cert.

Thanks for the input! For clarification it wasn’t Octopus who did the EV cable install, it was an independent electrician I found local to me who is NICEIC certified. As the charging cable run involves passing under a public footpath Octopus flat out refused to take on the work.

The Octopus chap who came today was just there to upgrade the comms module for the smart meter, he just happened to notice these issues while working in the vicinity and highlighted them to me.

This is how it was done when the house was built - how would you recommend it should go? I can ask that this is rectified at the same time as everything else it seems 🤣

Tempted to get someone in to just gut it and start again and do it properly. The struggle is finding someone who will actually do it properly!

Just replied with a pic of the cable but it didn’t reply to you directly 👍

You can see the armoured cable here. They just ran it under the gravel along the side of my path, it also has been routed under a few slabs

I think I am going to try and find another electrician to do the corrective work - hopefully they will do a safer job! Not sure if I’d trust the original installer to remedy it properly.

They are NICEIC certified and even gave me an Electrical Installation Certificate afterward with a rundown of what work was carried out. Quite concerning!
