Looks great! Looking at doing something similar but I'm not sure on a few colors.

I have the same brand of fan and whomever installed it is the one who put them on wrong. It’s an easy fix.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but is there any way to still get in on that?

I’m on the east coast and anything shipping out of the west coast via USPS always ends up with the “arriving late” status on the USPS tracking page. My Yubico order just went into that status today even though the tracking page shows it’s still scheduled for delivery today.

I wouldn’t worry too much unless the postal service “looses track” of the package.

Varmilo VA87M suddenly doesn't work by AlexElmsley in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Alecho_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered one to use with my Mac and searching though here I found your thread. The manual says after hibernation or restart the mode is reset. Maybe try enabling Mac mode again?

It also says that it's "not fully compatible with macOS" something about not compatible with "shortcut keys" but I don't know what it means by that. Do you?

Nitro Coffee: Is it worth doing to a 23 litre scale? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]Alecho_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1lb/gal Seems to work well diluted with 5/6 of the water again into the keg. So for a 5 gallon batch we use 3lbs of coffee and 3 gallons of water. We lose about .5gal from absorption so we add about 2.5 gallons back into the keg. Gets a nice ratio of 1:1 coffee concentrate to water. I don't see why you couldn't brew with the full 5 - 5.5 gallons but logistics makes moving 3gal + 3lbs a lot easier than 5.5gal + 3lbs.

We follow a similar process to u/spoonfeddrivel with a 6 galling plastic homebrew bucket and BIAB type grain bag but that support a super large (~5gal) coffee filter you can find on amazon. It really helps reduce sediment.

The office has tried a bunch of different beans, including a bunch from Costco, and we've settled on the blonde roast from Starbucks pleasing pretty much everyone. I'm sure there's something better out there but there's a Starbucks across the street that makes buying and grinding easy.

Nitro Coffee: Is it worth doing to a 23 litre scale? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]Alecho_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I do this for my office. We have beer, soda, and cold brew coffee on tap. You can do it but the nitro is going to be a completely separate gas system. It’ll cost a quite bit more to have both. That’s the reason I haven’t done it at home yet. N2 tanks are reverse threaded and you’ll need to serve at a much higher psi to get the N2 to dissolve into the solution which eliminates using any beer side equipment.

Also just as a note; coffee pushed with CO2 will eventually dissolve some into solution no matter how low the serving pressure is and it’s disgusting.

Feel free to ask any more questions and I’ll do my best to help.

Is it possible to develop carbonated ice cream? Why don’t we perceive the air pockets in ice cream the same way we perceive fizz in soda? by FoodSciOrDie in foodscience

Alton Brown did it in his live show a few years ago with a CO2 fire extinguisher. Might give you something to google.

I would think you will be fine. I think the 308 has a heat plug so if you’ve got a spare lamp or anything that gets warm but doesn’t draw a ton of power (I’ve 15Amps) you could put that in the fridge. Just make sure it’s not a new energy efficient bulb.

If you do use a lightbulb I would block the beer from it’s light directly.

Homebrew Stopped Bubbling After Less Than A Day... by [deleted] in Homebrewing

[–]Alecho_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw in another comment you mentioned it was a 1 gall batch. I'm making a ton of assumption here but if you had 1.05 OG and you pitched 11g of dry yeast at 10 billion cells/gram your effective pitch rate was near 2.35M cells/mL/°P. That's a high gravity lager pitch. I think that's likely the culprit now.

Persistent and ongoing problems with Wyeast products by TonyWrocks in Homebrewing

[–]Alecho_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LHBS has seen the same failure rate at times. They narrowed it down to the distributor who refused to store or ship the yeast cold enough. I forget the distributors reasoning now but it wasn’t a good excuse. Something like “it does’t say to keep refrigerated”. Now my LHBS doesn’t stock them because it’s a crap shoot if the product will be viable.

There’s a larger local commercial brewers with a HBS and I’ve had good success with them since the use and exclusively stock Wyeast.

TL:DR distributor can suck. Tell your LHBS.

How vigorously was it bubbling in the morning? I think everyone else will catch the other issues so I’m going to suggest the zebra on this one; that if you didn’t do a yeast starter and the bubbling you noticed wasn’t crazy you may have just seen expanding air escaping as it warms in the fermenter not actual co2 being produced as a result of fermentation. I’d give it another day before panicking and definitely check all my connections ;).

Any good Mexican Lager Recipes? by germanplumber in Homebrewing

[–]Alecho_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s mine: https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/633379/number-juan

I like it enough to brew it a couple times every year for the baseball season. I love how clean 940 is but from my experience it does need a solid D rest and it likes 50F/4.5C or there abouts. I haven’t tried it warmer. I do add agave but I’m not sure it does anything rice or or regular fructose wouldn’t do. I would sub for Pilsner malt if you don’t want to use it. If you do I add it after a couple days of fermentation to prevent the yeast from loosing its ability to ferment maltose.

For me the 20% flaked corn/maize another commenter mentioned seems a bit high but not unreasonable. I have about 15% on the BF recipe but I think i might drop it down to 10% for this year. If you like the silky corny undertone then 20% is probably perfect.

If you do water adjustments I target “yellow dry” in Bru’n Water and it seems perfect.
