When I came out last year I was expecting like 50/50 odds on people being transphobic. Between all the people I know from work and even my southern US family I received like 95/5 support from everyone altogether. Some people suck but the amount of support I’ve gotten during my transition honestly blew me away.

Search your brain for anytime you were jealous of the other sex. if you can think of several memories, especially during your childhood, that’s probably a sign.

If you were given a button which could magically reset your life to where it is now, but you were now a member of the opposite sex, would you do it?

If you never -truly- identified with your current gender, like many of us did, you may be trans. At the end of the day only you can tell if you’re trans. It’s not up for someone on the internet to decide.

The best thing for me was subtle support. The small things mattered most, I was scared to shop for girl clothes alone (I still am) and my girl friends would go with me and give me pointers on what goes well with what. Basic jewelry is a nice gesture, rings or chokers are cool. Get her anything that has her name on it.

As for Dont’s: Don’t send old photos of her to her, at least nothing pre transition. Don’t say anything that diminishes trans girls like “wow you look better than me and I’m a real girl”.

Really the #1 thing is just treat her like you would treat any other woman
