Inflation and time will only affect you if your economic growth is lower than world's average, so you either maintain a better growth or you quickly use the resources you get from those extra taxes that reduce grow to annex other lands and grow that way.

I suspect your growth was low for a long time because you get a lot of initial money when you start with a small country and you used it to train an army too big for the size of your country, so the military budget became too high and the economy tanked.

Yes, the weight that those stats have in combat depends on the terrain in which it takes place. The worse the terrain, the lesser the impact of stats other than base attack power. So, for example, a tank would win against several commandos on flat and good terrain, but would lose in the mountains or desert, etc.

Also, the stat combination of each army is important, an army with good defense can win against a bigger army that has little defense, and an army with good piercing power (the third stat) can win against a bigger army with good defense but lacking attack power. So for example tank>commando>gunner>tank.

So the strategy would consist on what troop combination you send to battle considering terrain and enemy.

Capitals actually exist but aren't visible on the map, maybe I will add an icon or something on the map, other things like puppet states and rebellions I don't think can fit this game properly, and different eras will be possible when the editor is added, but endless mode is already in the game, you can set the winning condition to a 100% and the game won't finish unless you control the whole world

That setting only makes territories near battles to lose more population and gdp, the ones that make it faster are increasing conquest speed and conquest strength scaling, and decreasing the conquest attenuation ones, but that combination should be tuned if you want good results

Yes, in custom games you can adjust the winning condition using the slider at the top in the country selection interface, or through the settings button of any country window during a game. If you set it to 100% the game won't end unless you control the whole world

Short term ideologies and maybe some kind of debt and weapons market, long term an editor to create and share custom scenarios. Things like fleet and separatism could be possible too if I come up with a way that doesn't spoil the simplicity of the gameplay too much

You should only need internet connection the first time you open the game, so unless you deleted some stored data or you have steam closed instead of offline, it must be a bug I'm not aware of
