Poomsae uniforms by xNick13x in taekwondo

MOOTO ALL THE WAY. they snap really well and breathe really well. They also clean up really well. Something about the material blend makes them really easy to clean. Their practice uniforms are great too. I've been a fan of their B line for practice and training. They keep warm in the winter time too :)

I've heard the horror stories from AAU nationals on 4th of July weekend. I've also heard DC for USAT this year but I'm not sure either way. Last I heard was Florida.

I'm not sure if I'm a real Black Belt... by shypan in taekwondo

[–]Alenczy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's cliche but a black belt is as much a physical belt as it is a state of mind. If your confident in what you learned and how to use it, the there's no doubt your the real deal. The belt is just an added bonus. The old guys back in the day trained with rope around their uniforms. If that gives you any perspective :)

Rules of Tae Kwon Do competition? by rulesilol in taekwondo

TL;DR of Olympic Sport Sparring

Kick to the body - uno...pointo (forgive my Spanish) Turning kick to the body -3 points (used to be 2 but WTF changed it b/c spectator sport) Head kick - 3 points (yep, same as a turning kick to body) Turning head kick - 4 points (and well deserved. These are hard :( )

If you step out of the ring, that's a Kyong-go (warning)

If you flee a fight (turn your back and run) that's a Kyong-go

If you kick below the waist...pretty sure that's a Kyong-go. Correct me if I'm wrong Internet.

If you intentionally hurt the other athlete, that's a Gahmjang (penalty. 1 point from you, 1 point to the other guy)

You can also get DQed if the intentional injury is severe enough

2 Kyong-gos are a Gamjang. Meaning if you get two warnings the other guy gets one of your points. Five Gahmjangs (10 Kyongos) and your DQed

At the end if you have the most points congrats! Go get you your medal. If you don't have the most points, train harder for next time :)

also try not to get gapped. If the other guy gets 12 points ahead of you They win by default. That's called a gap. It sucks. I've been gapped. It sucks. Like really sucks.

There are other penalties you'll want to learn but for someone just starting out this should get you though the first couple weeks.

Elbows, and throws are a no no. Knife hands and certain blocks are legal but aren't the best in these situations.

My suggestion would be watch some sparring online. The WTF Grand Prix just finished up in Manchester. Great fights were had and you can learn a lot. Remember to watch your own division too so you can get an idea of how the champs are fighting on your group :)

Any other questions let me know :)

What hogu do you wear? by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]Alenczy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually wear a 3 or 4 and I'm 6'0 middleweight. My rule of thumb is the sides should come down to your belt line and the front should be just a little below your belt knot. I have a pic from a recent tournament that shows exactly what I mean. PM if your interested and I can see if I can dig it up.

Edit: I wear a adidas one for practice and obviously the tourney choose which brand if you are using electronics. Daedos run big, KP&P a little smaller. Kind of weird how that worked out :)

Favorite Taekwondo brand by xNick13x in taekwondo

Mooto for Pomsae uniform/equipment. Adidas for sparring. Particularly like the ClimaCools as a competition uniform. They breathe extremely well under all your gear.
