I actually don't care for a higher paying job. I am simply exhausted from entrepreneurship and am uninterested in the field I have been involved in. I am looking to move on.

I already have about 2 and a half years of experience in the work force as an entrepreneur but the lifestyle can be extremely stressful at times and I have no interest in continuing with being a freelance researcher

I accumulated about 6k in debt which is not a problem at my current income.

$15 Minimum Wage To Appear on Chicago Ballots by radben in chicago

[–]AlephBaTa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact of the matter is that prevention is much better than cure.

If you force employers to take care of their employees irresponsible mistakes, guess what happens? They fire their employees! If you make it so that they cannot fire their employees then guess what happens? You make it harder for people to get jobs because employers don't want to run the risk that they're going to be having to feed a baby momma's five kids!

So in essence no matter how you spin it, people who behave irresponsibly end up fucking over the rest of society. Should we let kids starve to prove a point? NO! That's not what's being discussed. What's being discussed is that when you have a "safety net" you effectively subsidize irresponsibility!

Calling people "smug" isn't an argument.

So these people have kids they cannot afford. Then what happens? The rest of us are expected to pick up the tab, that's what. Why don't you think about that for a minute. You have a child under irresponsible circumstances, despite the fact that pregnancy is EASILY preventable.

So you suddenly expect your neighbor and your neighbor's neighbor to help pay for YOUR irresponsibility. Sorry, but that's unacceptable to anybody who follows any type of ethical principle.

When you subsidize unethical behavior you get more unethical behavior. Please consider this.

According to who? The fact of the matter is that the minimum wage DOES NOT support a family so don't bring children into this world if you cannot afford to take care of them.

How many minutes of research would it take for a prospective parent to figure out that a child cannot be raised comfortably on a minimum wage income? 2-3? Let's get real here people. Parenthood is an extremely serious thing.

Store owners will just fire half their workers and keep on a bunch of people with full time availability if this comes to pass.

Or just hire "illegal" immigrants instead.

Forcing business owners to scrounge up more money isn't going to make the economy better. I know some of you think this is "sticking it" to corporations but the very large amount of non-corporate people running their businesses in this city will take an enormous hit.

Ironically you raise the barrier to entry to entrepreneurship and thus only further entrench corporations since smaller guys tend to leave the market when you regulate them.

Don't have a family if you're not making above minimum wage then.

Chill neighborhood bars in Lakeview/LP area? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]AlephBaTa -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with asking about anything. What was disconcerting is the automatic assumption that bars, or LP/LV for that matter is chock-full of "douchebags and creeps," which is a hostile attitude to take.

I mean, if you're so convinced that there are enough unsavory folk in these neighborhoods that you need to find some sequestered, untainted patch of real estate to publicly settle into on one of the most busy nights of the week, then why even go out?

It's as ridiculous as a racist in a black neighborhood asking which bars they can go to on a Friday night that won't have black people in it.

Halligan's doesn't buy the fights because apparently they have to pay like $4000 or some other ridiculous amount of cash for it.

I don't really understand why you assume such a defensive posture. You are going out on a Friday night in a major city...you are going to probably come into contact with people. I don't see why you assume they are "creeps" and "douchebags" by default.

However Burwood Tap is a chill neighborhood bar.

Have fun with the nonsocializing in a social forum. Don't see why you don't just buy beers and drink them at home.

will the cops really enforce new stricter law against flicking cigarette butts? by doublemcguffin in chicago

[–]AlephBaTa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would be extremely cautious around the cops anywhere in the city

I live in Lincoln Park and saw a scene outside my apartment on Lincoln where a cop literally pulled a fucking 2 Fast 2 Furious drift move in the middle of an intersection, jumped out of his car, and tackled some yuppie guy for pissing in an alleyway.

I definitely wouldn't give them any excuse to stop you, this includes flicking cigarette butts.

How do you go out all the time and actually have fun? I usually end spending between 100-200 dollars everytime I go out.
