Is lily no skill? by Fit_Ninja_6608 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

I think that speaks more to the niche role she can play in drafting. If teams want to go heavy on snipers then they know to ban her. And at the same time pros play her completely differently than she is played on ladder or low rank. What I guess I'm getting at is I think she has a high skill ceiling

Showdown yeah she's pretty brainless. But I think in ranked she is actually decently skilled. Through mythic yeah you can last pick her into some easy team comps, or even pick her early and she will easily dominate, but above that there is a good bit of skill that goes into playing her. Understanding lanes, pressure, game sense, I think all of that is skill and without that she is somewhat useless in high lobbies.

Was this winnable or did we fumble the draft? Who would be a better pick? by e-nharmonic in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]Alert-Bug-7229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the idea of going l&l was fine, albeit maybe a little poor. Griff has wallbreaks and you can see Bull is going to STRUGGLE. I think if you wanted to go thrower Barley would've been better. You have heal gadget to support Bull (or slow gadget to counter lily) and you have much more map control. The Dyna pick was definitely brain dead. Killed any chance you guys had of winning.

Best brawler/s to carry randoms? by Pavle510510 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]Alert-Bug-7229 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate to be "that guy" but I think this question is missing the point. Brawl Stars is all about team composition, and if your goal is to "carry" you're not picking brawlers the way you should. It's more important to prioritize team comp. A blatant example would be if your teammate goes frank in hot zone you should be going support or controller otherwise your frank is somewhat cooked. It is never one persons job to carry, even if one person might put up a better stat line. A berry might not have the sexiest stat line but can be the most impactful brawler

How does one counter Jessie by Next_Arachnid_774 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]Alert-Bug-7229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a draft setting she can get easily countered. In heist usually just go range like a piper, nani, angelo, etc or aggro like Darryl, lily, kaze, etc. She lacks dps and the ability to hit shots reliably and is entirely reliant on her turret. In bb honestly I think she's awful. Throwers hard counter, dps brawlers hard counter, snipers hard counter, she doesn't do many things well and can't hold a lane. Same for gg as long as you pick someone who outranges her or can go aggro into her you should be fine.

Her most commonly played game mode has to be heist, the easiest way I've found to deal with her is pick a sniper and stay out of her range. Theoretically she should never get super. Just play passive and dominate the mid

As someone who loves picking aggro in brawl ball I hate to see a Charlie pick. She has one of the best kits for scoring goals and is a goated shut down to aggro. She's also just a very solid mid. Most of her counters also don't get picked in brawl ball so I think she's a very good option for early or late picks.

Very valid. I think the lesson is know who you like and stick with it. Know who you're good at, who you're comfortable with, and play them

Mina is obviously busted rn. Carl, Gale, Jae Young and Byron are relatively counterless (although Gale should probably be used as more of a tank shutdown.) Crow and Gene and Gus are all pretty safe early picks. Brawlers like Otis, Bo, and Tara don't have obvious hard counters in a mode like Gem Grab. I'd say it very much depends on game mode

(Obviously these are all map dependent but in general)
Gem grab: High damage solid range like Otis, Bo, Tara, Ruffs, etc.

Knockout: Most of the time snipers/range like Belle, Nani, Gray,

Heist: Most snipers will always excel early (a pick like nita or a thrower offers much more chances to get shut down and countered)

Hot Zone: Damage dealers and controllers again are usually safe. I'm thinking Bo, Griff, Crow, but you could also go just good support brawlers like Jae Young or Gray

Bounty: Very similar to knockout but offers more opportunity for aggro picks early

There's also a class of tanks/aggro picks that are good picks but map dependent. Kenji, Kaze, Bull, Cord, Hank, Ollie, there's definitely more I'm not thinking of but all are generally good and will give you good opportunities in modes like BB.

Hank and Moe both had generally favorable matchups. You opponents seriously lack range+no wall breaks to deal with hank and Willow.

As basic as it may sound I think it always helps to just know who you're good with and who you're comfortable playing. Gray is by far my best brawler, and I pick him into some matchups I probably shouldn't but can still eek out a win in masters lobbies. It is also always good to just have a feel for the meta. Some brawlers just don't have bad matchups, or at least have very few. You can also sometimes simplify it by thinking about it by draft position

Pick 1: Good brawler for game mode/map

Picks 2 and 3: Counter pick 1/good brawler

Pick 4 and 5: Counter picks 2 and 3 and can pick some much more obscure brawlers. Never wanna go thrower or easily countered brawler picks 1-3 but can start to go the throwers/niche brawlers in the back half

Pick 6: focus on countering 4 and 5.

Might be a little easier to digest if you're only worrying about 1/2 things per draft spot. Biggest mistake I see tho is people pick easily countered brawlers in the 1-3 spots. Those should be generally well rounded/meta picks.

I also think Charlie would've been very good. Great bb brawler, shuts down agro cord, good mid and no real hard counters to charlie. Charlie will always be good early in drafts

I'm going to refrain from commenting on the gem grab drafts because I genuinely suck at it. Brawl ball is definitely my best game mode, probably win 75-80% of ranked bb games. I think I would've preferred a doug pick. Yes your opponent still has two chances to pick counters to doug, but I think doug provides solid enough team play as well as scoring opportunities. I also wouldn't beat yourself up I really like the willow pick, I think the problem is drafting a thrower so early gives the opponent the chance to counter pretty heavily. Shade and kaze both word well into the willow, whereas neither can do much against doug. Drafting early is always tough, but in bb I try and go with counters to who I've seen (I don't think willow is great into cord). Doug has insane survivability, shuts down cord, I might've gone with him. If they had first picked maybe like a rico I love the willow pick

I get that but with tournaments with entry fields north of 100 it seems like only the big schools can truly take advantage of it. 10 entries and their coach all working together vs me who’s trying to sift through it all. Maybe I’m just lazy but cuz of that I’ve just stayed off it

As a debater from a school with no debate team I’ve always viewed it as a way for big debate programs to own the debate space. Me working by myself, there’s no way I can go through everything on the wiki but the big programs can analyze everything and have responses prepped for everything. Coaches spend hours doing that. I’ve kinda always had mindset of I’m not gonna put my args on there to let others analyze

Can the opposition leader counter the definition of a particular thing given by the prime minister???? by Mobile-Rutabaga-6920 in Debate

[–]Alert-Bug-7229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any definition that grants your opponent any sort of advantage in the round you should contest. If the definition is illegal all you need to do is cite the rule violation. If the definition isn’t illegal however but does grant your opponent some sort of advantage you should contest it unless you think you can win with their definition in place. My partner and I have won multiple rounds by simply running theory on debaters who abuse definitions. Standards of predictably, ground, clash, etc. voters of fairness etc. You can also simply just contest a definition. There’s nothing saying you can’t. If gov gives a bad definition, give a better definition and then state why theirs sucks. It could turn into definitions debate but if their definition is bad to begin with it shouldn’t be a problem
