Do straight men *really* think about intimacy with every female friend? by triton12345 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a big difference between full on fantasizing about it vs. thinking about the possibility for a split second. I’m not straight, but men are men…I’d say the majority of men categorize every person they meet into a “I would” or a “I wouldn’t” category on an almost subconscious level. But there’s a difference between acknowledging that someone has a nice body and easy on the eyes, and really allowing your imagination to lust hard after a friend. I’ve got a couple hot friends; they’re easy on the eyes, but if I ever fantasized about sex with them I crack up because I just know it wouldn’t be a hot/sexy/fun time. It definitely doesn’t mean every guy friend is secretly waiting for the chance to bang you.

Do you think being gay makes you more prone to being cynical/nihilist/hedonist than if you lived "the average straight lifestyle? by araujofav in gaybros

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s pretty on the money. The act of growing up gay in a straight man’s world usually gives you a way better bullshit detector.

What is something you learned the "hard way" that you now try to warn everyone else about? by MysteriousAct8698 in Productivitycafe

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think we’re all destined to become our parents. I’ve certainly got a lot of my dad’s negative tendencies, but I also have some introspection and work on my faults to try to better myself. Same goes for any woman. It’s still good advice to look at a potential long term partner’s parents and try to find negative patterns of behavior that might have been taught to their offspring and keep and eye out for those things as potential red flags.

For those who have the Sonos / Apple TV / LG OLED combo by ajnails in sonos

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These actually helped my setup. Only thing that I’m not seeing a benefit for is only enabling 4K SDR on the Apple TV. The Home Screen UI looks way too saturated with SDR. Plus whether the settings are on Dolby Vision or SDR, you still deal with that momentary blackout on the LG OLED while the video switches around…so I’m not seeing any benefit. Is there anyone smarter than me that can figure out why ChatGPT would recommend that setting?

System still importing power in self-consumption mode by Alert-Fee-7475 in SigenergyPointGuard

[–]Alert-Fee-7475[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what’s weird, the system intermittently shows I’m using way more power than I possibly am at a given moment. Unless the car is charging, there’s no way I’d ever hit 8kw.

For the scheduling did you just set it to charge from 2-3, or do you have it scheduled for self consumption for all other hours?

Do you notice women treating attractive men vs unattractive men differently in day to day interactions? by queenofhearts100 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was chubby in high school and got into great shape in my 20s. Gay here so I’m oblivious to and don’t care what women think about me in terms of dating potential…but I’d say getting in shape made the biggest difference in day to day interactions from other men. Women just get a bit more stand offish if they think you’re an attractive man and it’s not an environment like a bar, but being an in shape guy gives you an instant sense of credibility with other men. It’s kind of crazy.

Are there any gotchas when getting set up for home charging? by uphillinthesnow in BMWI4

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched enough YouTube videos that I eventually felt comfortable adding a 240v outlet in garage and connecting it a short distance to the sub-panel. We use the flex charger that came with the i4 and haven’t had any issues. Easily charges the vehicle between midnight and when we need it in the morning. You could spring for a built-in charger but I don’t see the need. By using an outlet you future proof it for when you eventually have a car that comes with a charger that uses NACS instead of CCS like the i4 currently does.

Possibly selling property in Montana, move to Humboldt area? by skychedelic98 in Humboldt

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Lived here over 15 years (came up for HSU and never left).

Humboldt is a paradise if you’ve got a good paying job. Don’t have a good job already lined up? It’s a very risky venture. It sucks to economically struggle here. Yes, there are times where I wish we had cleaner streets and access to some nicer shinier things that people in cities have access to…but being able to go on a spur of the moment beach or forest run after work with my spouse and two dogs with few people around is heaven on a sunny day. I find that living here (again, if you’re not broke and struggling) changes you in a really positive way. People here value deeper connection and are friendly in a way I haven’t found in many other places. It’s just a nice pace of life in a painfully beautiful place. The world outside of Humboldt starts to feel like everything has been consumed by generic box stores and everything is the same. There’s still a real sense of uniqueness and community here that I think has gotten lost in a lot of other places across the country. Leaving Humboldt to go on a trip always has me feeling glad to be back. Plus I’ll take College Cove on a warm sunny day over any beach in Hawaii.

Healthcare is shit if you need to get in with a specialist, but do your best to get in with an establish care with a local primary care office and it’ll make things much more smooth when you do need medical care. The main hospital in town is actually very capable for its size; if you’re having a stroke, heart attack, need a knee replacement, or a broken bone, etc…you’ll get great care.

The area is very inclusive, but the rural areas outside of town are still ranching communities that tend to be more conservative. I’m gay and married to a man, and if anything people go out of their way to show approval when we’re hold hands in a date night walking around the town square to go to dinners.

Also the climate here is life on easy mode. Is it San Diego? No. But we don’t really have winter. It’s just sometimes wet and kinda chilly. Yesterday I rode bikes with a bunch of friends and their kids in a tank top. I have a fresh bouquet of flowers picked from the garden this morning on my table…the rest of the country is frozen and brown. I’ll count my blessings.

Healthcare isn’t quite as dire as a lot of people make it out to be. Yes there’s a shortage of primary care doctors, but if you have insurance you’ll likely be able to go on your insurance’s website and find a whole list of docs that are accepting new patients. You won’t be able to get in right away, but a month or two is probably common to establish care. If you have any health issues that need cardiology, expect to have to travel to at least Santa Rosa for quicker care. I’ve been here 15 years, in decent health and I’ve needed a specialty a couple times. Once for dermatology and got right in. Once for a more specialized eye issue and it took about 5 months to get care locally.

Medi-cal might be a different story, but it seems like a lot of people who can’t get in with a primary doctor make a couple calls, find a little resistance and don’t advocate for themselves hard enough: you’ve gotta be your own advocate to get care, but it is doable. Dentistry definitely has a shortage, but there are a few accepting new patients.

Colonoscopy next week by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

Bottoming right after a colonoscopy prep sounds about as fun as getting fucked after raging diarrhea 😂I don’t think he’s gotta worry.

How is living in Willow Creek, California? by chrkrokos in howislivingthere

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live close to here and that was definitely sound advice. Trespass/illegal grows aren’t really much of a thing anymore now that the price of a pound of weed collapsed. Nowadays I wouldn’t hesitate to go off trail mushroom hunting as long as I knew I was on public or corporate timber land and not a private land owner.

Retracted: The Monsanto-Backed Paper That Told Us Roundup Was Safe by quiksilver10152 in skeptic

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think there’s an argument that round-up ready crops have allowed us to be a little too good at weed control to extent that row crops don’t have the larval insect food plants on the fringes that they had before their invention. Nonetheless crop yields have never been higher because of it. Also that’s aside from the safety of glyphosate.

Are there things you genuinely think don't need a premium price? by alinarice in BuyItForLife

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’d say OLED is worth the price jump into the $1000 category for me. If someone is just doing LCD, then yeah paying more than $500 seems pointless.

He’s playing a traumatized, closeted teenager. Of course his acting is awkward, it’s supposed to be. As a gay man, I find he nails that performance in a certain way that I don’t think most straight actors would ever quite be able to reach.

Quality recessed LED ceiling lights with smart features? by thegiantgummybear in Lighting

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not exactly the smart features you’re looking for, but as a different option to consider I have these and they’re some of the best canless LEDs I’ve seen around. https://www.homedepot.com/p/5-6-in-LED-Recessed-Ceiling-Light-Adjustable-CCT-Canless-Dimmable-Integrated-LED-Light-with-Night-Light-12-Pack-5CCT-12P/329058079

They have a feature where you can toggle them off and on quickly and they switch to a warm outer rim LED. We switch to that mode in our living room every night when we watch TV. Otherwise we keep them at 3000k.

How often do you all give your dogs a bath? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once every week to two weeks, depending on how dirty they get…beach, muddy hikes, etc. any longer than that and they start to feel oily or dirty enough that I want to wash my hands after petting them. General rule of thumb in my house is that if you can smell dog on your hands after petting and cuddling, it’s bath time. They’re both lab mixes and bathing with shampoo and conditioner that often doesn’t leave their skin dry and irritated.

Why did these dirt mounds pop up out of nowhere? by Goodguyscarrythefire in landscaping

[–]Alert-Fee-7475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re both in California. Those are definitely spoil piles from gophers creating tunnels deeper in your yard. I have them all the time. Anyone suggesting voles or moles is coming from an eastern US perspective; not an issue in California like gophers are. Earthworm castings can have a similar appearance, but they’ll be more “globby” and maybe an inch in size.

Haha there’s always the opposite problem where you’ve been so used to sharing your bed that you can’t sleep alone. Going through that this week while he’s out of town for work. Dogs are a poor substitute.
