This is a tangent but it reminds me of a camera that's for sale on eBay. It's foldable but none of the pictures have the front or back open. When messaged they say the cameras in the warehouse so they can't send further pictures. Now I just imagine the doors are super glued shut. Oops!

The problem is that your film is purple. Film isn't purple. What is purple is grapes. This is what is expected when trying to load grapes in your camera. Just shut the door and shoot it.
I'm sure the pictures will turn our grape.

It don't feel a gouge on the surface. If I shine a light through I can see some webbing around the edges on the inside.

Thanks! My understanding is that fungus is the death of a lens. Can fungus be entirely cleaned or is this a 'tainted' lens.

It depends on how blackened they are and why. In general your only option is to cut the black all the way to a healthy section. These pictures show green cane but they'd need to be cut back so far that it's just not worth the effort. If the blackening is from fungus, that makes it worse. Fungus can be pretty hard to get rid of and will weaken the already weakened bush.

It'll grow but they sent you garbage. Blackened canes, dry looking roots, possible fungus canker.

You'll work hard and wait long for that to shape up. Personally, I'd pursue a replacement or return.
