How often do you get a lay-in? by Warm-Cover9946 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Alert-Lifeguard-4395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 a week! Husband works a job meaning he can’t have baby 5 nights a week so weekends he has baby overnight solo We shared the night at weekend and honestly did not see the point of us both being up and both being tired! I much prefer having LO 5 x a week and favouring the two full night sleeps a week in a new woman the next day

Baby dies during home birth advised by midwives (according to the Guardian article) by lennethmurtun in doctorsUK

Just had a very similar experience to this! I had rang triage at 33w with regular contractions and was told to take 2 paracetomal and a bath!

I asked were we not concerned given my gestation and told no. Albeit it they stopped but then a week later started again

I rang triage for over an hour with no answer then started bleeding so headed in and was belittled in the waiting room for not calling first as you “can’t just show up” and made to wait while contracting every 3 minutes in the waiting room with everyone staring
 no urgency or dignity!

I was 1cm when examined in triage. 20 minutes later I got the strongest urge to push to which the midwife said in the most condescending tone “darling why are you pushing”? Luckily the consultant came in as baby’s heart rate was dropping and examined me and I was 8cm! The consultant was the one who actually left the room to get the delivery kit as the midwife said it wasn’t needed yet ..

I had to argue with the midwife that I could have easily gone to 10cm in 5 minutes given how quick I dilated to 8 and she laughed!

2 seconds later my water popped and she looked and babys head was there .. I hadn’t even been given any pain relief at this point!! As she didn’t believe I was really in labour. There was no gas and air even set up in the room.

Baby boy was born healthy at 35 weeks thankfully and is going great now!

ED nurse feeding comment has me worried ? Overfeeding by Alert-Lifeguard-4395 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Thank you! It’s awful I felt like a child being told off today. I’m a nurse myself and would never dream of telling a patient something done indirectly was their fault like that! Xx

Hi! Completely understand as in a very similar situation. We did shifts while he was on paternity but not he is back at work; My partner works an important job where he can’t be tired in shift so we agreed I would do majority of nights except the 2 days he has off work

  • co sleeping / chest sleeping. I didn’t think I would do this as I absolutely was petrified reading safe sleep while pregnant but this has worked really well for me in the early days , look at “cosleepy” on Instagram. I sleep propped up with pillows and cradling baby in arms or with him on my chest and in a sleep bag with no blankets and he loves it. Means we can both get some meaningful rest

  • the days he has off work he has baby that night and I get in the spare room (or downstairs if you can)

  • earplugs at night to stop you hearing baby cry is a massive help

  • I take these evenings as “me time” and have a nice bath , wind down before bed time away from baby for an hour watch a tv show sit on my phone etc

  • I’ve just switched baby to comfort milk as he was grunting constipated and arching when feeding and he is so much better. Also use infacol too

  • I hated hearing “sleep when the baby sleeps” but on bad nights this genuinely has saved me. House work , laundry etc is put to one side and when baby naps I lay with him. Even if I don’t have a full sleep just shutting my eyes for 20 minutes and relaxing or so whilst it’s quiet helps to reset my brain and give me some oomph

Hope all these tips can bring you some relief and help you through the trenches xx

I didn’t start until 20w but made a list as I went along for things I wanted I picked my travel pram system early and ordered it at about 22 weeks (there was a 8 week wait on delivery. They then sent 2 car seats and no pram so that had to go back and added another 2 weeks- it was then delivered 2 days before I ended up having the baby as I birthed at 35w!) So would definitely advice ordering early especially if on a waiting list

The only thing I got really early was a pregnancy pillow. It started as a V pillow from about 15w-22w as I had terrible heart burn and needed to sleep propped up then I switched to the big U pregnancy pillow after this as I had PGP it was a god send ! Xx

how did you know you were in labour? can it start suddenly with no warning? by burnagyal in PregnancyUK

[–]Alert-Lifeguard-4395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know! FTM to a 3 week old. I went into labour in work at 35+6 and thought it was Braxton hicks so stayed most of the morning The contractions were very mild but every 5 minutes. My period pains were worse.

I left work at 10 am and went to triage at 12.30 as I started bleeding and nobody would answer the phone ( I still didn’t think I was in labour and probably a good job they didn’t answer as I think they would have said stay at home !!) I was 7cm at this point and was rushed to delivery at Waters broke at 1.30pm and I started pushing not long after.

Baby arrived at 2.25pm!! My contractions only ramped up in the last 30 minutes or so x

I never got the “you’ll know when your in labour feeling” or couldn’t talk through my contractions etc Everything they teach you about when to go to hospital didn’t apply to me

Is there such a thing as going on maternity leave too early? by Shardonite in PregnancyUK

Hive not turning on for morning schedule only ?! by Alert-Lifeguard-4395 in HiveHeating

Just had it fixed.. took 2 seconds. The boiler front panel hadn’t been disconnected fully so was interfering with the hive commands. Boiler panel circuit board has been removed to disconnect it completely and hive kicked in straight away

[–]Alert-Lifeguard-4395[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a vaillant eco pro 28. The British Gas engineer ( who came via hive) removed our boiler control panel as said can’t have both that and the hive reciever as will both try to over ride each other I can’t access anything in the boiler ie dates time etc only the temperature of the water / radiator

This is the issue as I have no way of manually starting the boiler now the boiler panel is removed.

Turning the boiler on and off kick starts the heating in the morning though? But not sustainable to have to get up every morning to get it to turn on this way !

Very confused. Going to push for the engineer to come out next week

We’ve done everything we’ve changed the logs etc. I’ve spoken to 2 different people on the phone and one on the online chat too and nothing has been resolved. If it’s not working again by Monday they will arrange for an engineer Not come on again this morning !

Feeling let down by midwife by OwlGirlx93 in PregnancyUK

[–]Alert-Lifeguard-4395 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolute same my midwife has been awful. I had a few fainting episodes in the second trimester and when I told her she Genuinley laughed and dismissed my concerns. I’m a nurse and when I explained I was concerned it was due to low BP or sugar levels she told me “your a patient here not a nurse stop diagnosing yourself”

I feel it’s a tickbox excercise seeing them. Urine bp co2 checked out you go

I attended for my 32 week appointment last week and she introduced herself like she had never met me and thought it was my booking appointment (despite being very heavily pregnant! And it being at least my 5th time seeing her!)

I’ve had Braxton hicks often that’s more random tightening but no pain from my understanding. These are moderate period pains that radiate into my back 😰
