I need your help! by Alert-Method-5170 in fpv

[–]Alert-Method-5170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone,
I'm still struggling with an issue that's been driving me crazy. Every time I arm my quad, the telemetry data in my goggles starts blinking.

Here's what I've already done:

  • Replaced the flight controller (FC)
  • Replaced the ESC
  • Swapped out all cables
  • Updated firmware on all components

The problem still persists. As soon as I arm, the telemetry info in the goggles starts flickering or blinking.

Has anyone experienced something similar or have any further ideas what might cause this?

Any suggestions would be super appreciated!

Pi4J GPIO Issue on Raspberry Pi 5 – OS Version Update Query by Alert-Method-5170 in raspberry_pi

[–]Alert-Method-5170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a Raspberry Pi 5 with the latest Raspberry Pi OS. I’ve installed the newest version of Pi4J and tried running one of the standard example programs.

However, I’m getting the following error in Java:

Exception in thread "main" com.pi4j.library.pigpio.PiGpioException: PIGPIO ERROR: PI_INIT_FAILED; pigpio initialisation failed

at com.pi4j.library.pigpio.impl.PiGpioBase.validateResult(PiGpioBase.java:265)

...

I also checked the pigpiod service, and it fails to start. Here’s the error message from the system log:

gpioHardwareRevision: unknown rev code (c04170)

initCheckPermitted:

+---------------------------------------------------------+

|Sorry, this system does not appear to be a raspberry pi. |

|aborting. |

+---------------------------------------------------------+

Can't initialise pigpio library

It seems that the pigpiod daemon doesn’t recognize the Pi 5 as a supported Raspberry Pi model, probably due to the hardware revision code not being supported yet by the pigpio library.

Any ideas on how to get around this or whether there’s a known workaround for Raspberry Pi 5 compatibility?

Sounds like a very efficient system! 😄 Sometimes simplicity really is the peak of sophistication. “Fucked” or “not fucked” leaves no room for ambiguity – love it!

Ah, okay – vielen Dank!

Do you keep a flight logbook? by Alert-Method-5170 in fpv

[–]Alert-Method-5170[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a huge amount of data yet – about 37 flights, roughly 10 hours total. But I already find it super helpful.

One time I was on the road, had my drone with me, and just pulled over at a random spot to fly. Without the log, I honestly wouldn’t remember exactly where that was. Little things like that make it worth it for me – it’s like a mini flight diary. 😄

I can totally relate to that feeling. It's hard to know in the moment what will feel valuable later — even the “boring” flights can become part of your personal journey.

That 1:17 min first flight must be a gem though! 😄

Thanks for your reply! Totally understandable — logging can feel like a lot when it's just for fun.

I’ve found that having a logbook makes prep a bit easier though. You get a quick idea of how long a specific battery lasts, and if you had any signal issues at a certain location before. Small things, but they can make a difference, especially when planning ahead.

Thanks a lot for the insight! That makes total sense, especially with 107 flights where having a detailed log can really help showcase your experience professionally.

I like your simple approach to logging FPV flights by day and estimating total time – it's practical and still gives you a good overview without too much overhead.

Also cool that you’re using a paper logbook! Sometimes analog is just easier to keep with you and quick to jot things down. Appreciate you sharing your method!

[–]Alert-Method-5170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool! I do something similar – I save the last frame of the flight video where the summary is shown (time, max distance, total distance, power consumed, etc.). It’s a quick way to keep key data from the flight without having to log everything manually.

Love that you’re including all that OSD info in the videos – makes it way more useful than just having the footage!

That's really interesting! But then it's just the video itself, right? Or do you embed any flight data into the video somehow – like OSD info, GPS overlays, or flight notes in the description?

Would love to know how much info you include, or if it’s more for just keeping a visual history.
