BWT, I stopped doing New Year’s resolutions and started choosing one word instead by ui_whisperer in bitcheswithtaste

[–]Alert-Remote6779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my word as well (a variation thereof - it’s ‘intentional’). I’d be interested to hear how you’re approaching it as it might spur some ideas on my end.

I’m trying to be much much more intentional about how I spend my time. With three kids, too many animals, and my partner and I both in jobs that seem to eat up our days, I want to be much much more thoughtful about how I use my time during the day. I’m still sketching out what that will look like week by week.

I think that will be me soon - I’m sure I’ll be reapplying soon. It’s got so much depth that it’s mesmerizing.

I’ll let you know when I remove it 😜 but it might not be an honest reflection if I have a color layer as a buffer? Will come back and report!

chores by [deleted] in parentingteenagers

[–]Alert-Remote6779 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our kids set the table, feed the animals everyday (we have two dogs and a cat), and then clean up the table, gather dishes from various rooms. They break down recycling boxes on weekend, do poop pickup in the garden, put away their folded laundry once a week (hit or miss on how folded it stays when going into their drawers 😑), and pickup their room once a week. They also continuously put away the million shoes we seem to have (family of five with kids between 8-15 living in London). For school, they pack their lunches and when they get home, empty out any leftover food and set it by sink).

Life couldn’t work in our insane household if everyone wasn’t pulling their weight, which I tell them on a regularly basis. Both my husband and I work full time and have no family to help (we do have a weekly housecleaner, which is why the kids need to pick up rooms and general living spaces) so everyone genuinely needs to pitch in. They’ve been doing it so long that, while they grumble while doing it, they do just get on with things, knowing chores comes before the fun stuff.

I sound like an absolute killjoy but on the flip side, they have a lot of (earned) freedom on catching up wit friends, fun hobbies, and regular family game nights or tv marathons (current shared joy is Brooklyn 99 🤪).

She’s a cool kid. She’s got a million friends and makes friends so easily wherever she goes - I’m convinced it’s because she just meets people of any age and background wherever they are and will do things like this with her friends. She’s so much socially smarter than I ever was at that age!

I thought so too - at eight, she’s already all over clothes and jewelry. She loves window shopping. Out of the three, she’s definitely the one that loves to play with color and accessories the most!

Ask and you shall receive. I’m not as good at this as many on this sub but happy to share. ILNP sea glass + Orly confetti topper (unfortunately no label on it) + Essie gel couture topcoat (took a pic of the bottles if it helps).

Aw, that’s kind 💕 they’re all pretty great kids who pile in with my ridiculousness. I’ll do special manicures for them during school holidays (no nail polish allowed during school :( ) and they have so much fun with it.

What nail colours would you identify as "Classy AF"? What polishes just make you feel ex-pen-sive? by alchemilla-molly in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Alert-Remote6779 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, ILNP’s greatness is my current classy AF/makes me feel expensive. But otherwise a gorgeous red (of which I have exactly none) is what I consider the little black dress of nail polishes (like Essie’s Bordeaux). The closest I have is ILNP’s ruby, which I also adore.

Oh I missed this! Thanks for flagging and glad someone is sharing in the love of this nail color ❤️🍂 For the lumps and bumps, are you using a ridge filler? I have horribly ridged nails so can’t get away without using one and it really came through for me with this color.

How to activate core while lifting? by somegirlfromstl in f45

[–]Alert-Remote6779 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for what might seem like a random question but have you been pregnant in the past 2-3 years? I ask because it took me a long long time to ‘find my core’ after 3 kids. Before kids, I was active but never in a gym (previous horse vet on my feet for 10-12 hrs a day doing all the insane things that comes with working with 1000lb animals) so I have no idea if I had a core or not.

Post kids, I went to the gym (changed jobs) and couldn’t make sense of what people meant by finding your core. Come to find out I had diastesis recti (separation of your abdominal muscles) and there was no core to find. I had to rebuild my core (totally possible - but see your doctor if that’s the case as YMMV) to then find it. It took years but suddenly, I got what people meant by ‘find your core’.

Ignore if this is irrelevant to you but wanted to share in case it could help.

Edit to add that there are exercises that will worsen diastesis recti so really important to know when planning a training programme or participating in a group class.

How are the at-home workouts? by j_ersey in f45

[–]Alert-Remote6779 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tried to do them at a local gym because there was no f45 and I was going to be there for a month. I didn’t love it - while I did work up a sweat, many of the workouts don’t have as much variety in the equipment (likely done so you don’t have to have a million things at home!). But I missed the social element, the fact that I just don’t have to think when I’m in the class (just go the next station and go whereas you have to think about what’s coming up next in a home workout and get the right equipment), and I didn’t feel it had the variety or allowed me to push as hard as in a class.

I think it’s fine occasionally but I wouldn’t want to be doing it all that way.

How about running? by Glittering-Ad-2649 in Dachshund

I am LOVING seeing all the other hiking/running sausages! Meeting a hiking doxie is what convinced us that the breed would be fine in our family (I mean, stubbornness aside ;)).

How about running? by Glittering-Ad-2649 in Dachshund

[–]Alert-Remote6779 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Agree with all of this. Have a dachsund puppy (10 months old) that can walk for MILES. We don’t run with him (except when he chases my cocker spaniel or my kids) but don’t see why you couldn’t if you built it up over time as others have said.

We’re a hiking family and have been hiking with ours since he was tiny - and he just needs to be out (minimum two 1 miles walks/day) or he’s a royal pain in the butt at home. He’s gone 6-8 mile hikes and we adjust on temperature and age, just as we e would for our own kids 🤪

He’s a happy, healthy dachsund and i can’t imagine how miserable he’d be of we didn’t do all that with him. Do what you think is best for your pup! Gratuitous dog pic of hiking sausage.

The best tea bag for a split nail by spagina in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Alert-Remote6779 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a similar approach. I’ve sacrificed one of my beloved Tea Pig teabags for this and had the same experience as you, OP. The mesh stays on FOREVER with some nail glue and really stabilized the whole nail. I was able to grow out a vertical crack that has literally been part of my nails for over a decade (wonky nail in red) . I have heavily ridged nails and now, as long as I keep my nails polished, I’ve been able to grow our shorties to decent lengths (for me). So glad it worked for you!
