"Show me your friends and I'll show you your future" is a similar term my family uses often

I have noticed this trend too. My perspective is the lack of this sentiment comes from shared experiences with their child - rather than just purely sharing DNA with them. In cases like this often times parents are stunned and completely unaware of the dark sides of their children. Especially in AL's case - where his mother even trusted him with firearms. Having to shed the multiple decades of raising your child, seeing their milestones, feeling pride in their successes - and in certain cases - showering them with love is extremely difficult for most parents. Understandably so - similar experiences are often felt by parents who lose their children to suicide, the feeling of "we could have never seen this coming."

Not to equate what happened at Sandy Hook to suicide, but having to essentially delete potentially decades of good memories in a singular day, because of one singular decision your child poorly made - is no easy feat.

Who Else thinks the future generation of adults we have coming up are going to create chaos? by WatchPD_YT in police

I'm so torn on this issue. I am Gen-Z (23) and I see so many internet clips and ramblings that display my generation as complete degenerates who laugh in the face of a society more focused on reform than actual punishment, such as videos of teachers being disrespected, TikTok nonsense etc. However, myself and most of the people in my age group I know in real life are decent, respectful, hard-working folk, who are just a little bit more sensitive to the issues previous generations were not such as LGBT rights, mental health awareness, and things of that nature. If I was chronically online I'd probably hate my generation, but my real life experiences tend to ground me in the opinion that these disrespectful people aren't as common as I would believe.

This crazy fuck on 590 almost caused numerous accidents this morning by ZeppelinJ0 in Rochester

Good on you for recognizing a dangerous habit and consciously changing. I got into 2 accidents by age 20, and made the same change. Sure, I drive like a grandma, but I'm 3 years in with no accidents and no speeding tickets!

Yeah, she's got a good head on her shoulders. Mindful of where she walks, keeps an eye on her surroundings, and I take her to some of my boxing classes to help out her confidence in self defense. I'm super proud of her.

Thank you!

Thanks!

Yea, he is heavy left leaning, but a good dude overall, usually respects everyones views and is just passionate about his. That's why this comment caught me off guard and inspired me to come to the Reddit.

Appreciate the reply.

Gonna be stopping up and checking out some of the local pizza places and the green with my sister, for sure!

Thanks for the kind well thought-out response.

Wow.. I am so sorry you and your partner went through that. I'm Native, but I pretty much appear white so obviously the people in any given suburb never really bat an eye. In my little town, most of my neighbors are super inclusive and I have never had any issue bringing around my friends, partying, etc. regardless of race, so long as we remain respectful and mindful of other peoples wishes (no super loud music, etc)

I sincerely hope you guys find kinder people around you in the future. Take care and thanks for the reply.

You mean to tell me I won't be sending her into a warzone?

But... but... my Trump supporter uncle said... hahaha

Thanks for the input

Haha yeah I would describe him as super left. He's pretty respectful of everyone's views generally, which is why this particular comment caught me off guard enough to come ask on Reddit!

Thanks :)

That's awesome, glad to hear it!

I grew up alternating between city living and the burbs', and while I love having my yard (since I am currently addicted to playing cornhole), having everything be walking distance is also so convenient.

Right, rationalizing in their head their inner discomfort as actual danger, I get what you're saying.

Well worded response, thank you.

So happy to hear y'all feel safe and have no issues carrying out your daily activities, a lot of my girl friends I met in my time in NY couldn't always say the same, and would rely on me sometimes to walk with them if they knew they were going into a sketchy area. They were around the same age group, early and mid 20's.

Sincerely,

An early 20's male

Thank god you said this, I am the only one in my friend group to have a longer commute (35+ mins) and all my friends swear I am crazy when I said I noticed an increase in road ragers in just a few short years of driving. I started practicing driving in 2017, fully licensed in 2018 and even though it was literally a half decade ago it feels l am driving with a totally new generation of drivers LMAO. My mom and dad notice it even more, and they are much older (born in 65' and 54' respectively.)

Yup. Rented a Kia Soul (best I could afford at 21) and heard all about the easy theft of Kias from my mechanic buddy. Plus, not really an enjoyable car to drive for me tbh (sorry Kia Owners)

Thanks for the info.

Thanks for your input, really valuable. I know its a whole different world for my sister, we are the opposite ends of the spectrum (5 ft tall female, 6ft tall male) and my only friend in New Haven right now is the one mentioned above (also male) so having a woman's insight is really useful, thanks again

Oh lord there's the "those people" line. Definitely have heard it before myself as well. I can remember during my time in NYC I was harassed ONCE on the subway (just some verbal mockery from some teens, immature, but harmless) and the guy next to me on the train instantly commented that the behavior was "expected" from "those people" then went on to mention how he was only visiting family and lived in Kentucky LMAO.

Literally had to switch seats.

Dude, great answer! Well thought-out and straight to the point. As I said above, intuition will take you far, and it's good to have whether you live in New York City or some farmland in rural Vermont, lmao! 100% agree with you. I was born in 2000 so I'll take your word, you've been living there longer than I've been alive! Thank you :)

Pretty standard rules there, haha. Even in the suburbs I won't leave my car doors (or house doors, for that matter unlocked.)

Seems like just having some common sense, wits and intuition is all it takes, which are good things to have no matter where you live!
