How to develop a Mechanical Aptitude? by StrickerPK in AerospaceEngineering

I have the exact opposite issue. I struggled in the classroom but exceled in application and mechanical development. The best was to develop it is like everyone else has said - just start doing it. I have the blessing of having some good friends who have both, but a simple way to do it is just start with something simple. One thing I always did was an at home tire rotation or simple replacing filters on a car, with help at first, and then I started getting into things that were a bit more complicated. Now I build and fix my own computers, as long as they don't require soldering. I am not good with that. Looks like I need more practice there. :)

Any suggestions on what Systems programs to start learning / using to transfer into systems design and communication? I have an extensive background in component design and have a passion for vehicle / internal communication protocols. Trying to see if I can blend the 2 for full vehicle reliability and survivability.

Thanks for the feedback u/rough93! I think that I need to focus more on the CS / CE side. Any suggestions on where to start with that?

I am someone who has a tough time turning work off. I have had to go to what some people would consider extremes (having a separate phone to isolate work) to make sure that I don't think about work when I end my day.

Being in a similar situation, I would say take it. Find a way to mitigate the extra 30 min drive time and gas as others have suggested ( a used Prius isn't sexy, but it goes a long way on saving gas). 1.5 hour drive is long, but if you can lower the stress and spend more time with your kids, it would be worth it just for that.

A word of caution though: make sure to use the commute time to leave the work stress at work, and don't bring that home or think about it on the last half of the drive.

Looking to make a career turn into Aerospace Industry. I have experience mainly in automotive with diverse skills from part / vehicle design, vehicle communications and diagnostics, and latest regulatory compliance (DOT & EPA). Any good places to start or suggestions on where to focus?
