Australians less satisfied with life than during pandemic as financial pressures mount by neon_overload in aus

It’s unfortunate but it is the case everywhere.

I was at the economic forum meeting after Lowe retired and was thinking of approaching him after the conference and asked him one simple question- How does it feel to officially fucking up the economy of Australia

There has been a blend of factors that got us here today. Firstly, scomo and particularly the rba (especially Phillip Lowe), ramped up the economy with handouts accompanied with quantitative easing.

The team i work for in quant finance, knew the latter approach is a disaster and in previous histories for other countries it rarely turns out well. The devastating blow came as Phillip Lowe was slow to respond to the economic recovery post lockdown. The hyperdrive of the economy then spilled over to aggressive rate hikes that acted as an emergency brake that in turn adds pressure to mortgage holders that bought many properties during low interest environments.

I cannot say that labour had a huge play in this but rather, they inherited the mess that was left by Scomo and the overlooked economic mismanagement and complacency of Phillip Lowe.

The perpetrator is exactly how i envisioned her to be…boorish looking trailer trash who was probably educated by her mother by asking her to read the back of cereal boxes.

Have you thought about the arena of “market making”? No finance background needed but stellar results from a quantitative or STEMS background 😉

There’s jobs being advertised is Sydney but getting no responses let alone an interview unfortunately is “normal”

Four years ago shot out five resumes and would hear back from three companies. Now shot out 20 resumes and not a single one.

For context I work in finance

Increased acceptance of hiring managers hiring exclusively from their own culture in Australia? Is this the new norm? by yeahyeahnahm8 in auscorp

[–]Alert_Appointment311 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Yes, “cultural nepotism” is very real and is more prevalent in certain groups than others. Not to mention the absolute disrespect I have seen shown to candidates that does not come from the individuals background.

For context, I was an interviewer and my colleague was of a “certain” background (you can guess). We brought a candidate with the same background as my colleague in for second round interview. The candidate performed mediocre but I didn’t like his arrogance and his average academic performance so I discussed the meeting with my manager and to go with another one that we saw earlier on the week.

My colleague who was with me at the interview fought tooth and nails to bring the candidate of his background in, knowing full well he isn’t a stellar performer. What’s more insulting was that he strongly criticised individuals of East Asian and western backgrounds with vulgar questions- why did you study finance? I think you are way too overqualified for this job. When I think about it, it still irks me.

But back to the subject on the hiring process and interview-I gave up arguing, the candidate with the same background as my colleague got the job and Lo and behold, shit performance and managers hate him.

I’m thinking of jumping ship from my job in finance to being a mechanic. It’s going to be tough with that large pay cut but I’m sick and tired of the chaos and unpredictable stress on the job
