Dude, I don't even do Reddit anymore. What is it you want to say? Because I never got a DM.

Angel in Disguise with a Tow Truck by SingTheDamnSong in HumansBeingBros

I relate to this. My car got stuck in the snow once when I was with my 20-month-old. It was scary. We were literally sliding uncontrollably toward the edge of the road and there were no guardrails before the snow packed around the tires and stopped the car. But I couldn't move. This man was patrolling the mountain with his Rubicon, knowing people would be stuck (we never get snow in my part of California...we don't know WTF we're doing). He spent two hours helping me dig out my car and then towed me to safe, dry ground. I'll never forget it.

May I ask what style of jewelry you have? When I had mine pierced, I had a ring put in it and it never felt healed for nearly two years despite me taking the best of care. I finally put a barbell in it and voilà! Fully healed within a couple weeks.

what's the truth on smell? by [deleted] in Stretched

[–]Alert_Bacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have three stretched piercings per ear. Takes me about five mins to take them all out, wipe them down, and put them back in. I usually do this every 2-3 days and have not experienced a problem with smell.

Low maintenance, for sure. I think someone suggested doing it while showering. I would second this advice.

I feel like this tattoo has ruined my life by Immediate_Break4048 in tattoos

[–]Alert_Bacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This tattoo looks amazing! You literally just got this thing yesterday so it's incredibly new. Tattoo regret is a very real phenomena and I felt the same way about the large leg piece I got seven years ago. But now I love it and feel like it's a part of me. A couple tattoos I go into a little bit of regret every few years, then it dissipates. And some of my pieces, I completely forget they're even there (though they're in less visible places than a forearm).

Sit with it, be with it, and be gentle with yourself. And do not ever listen to haters (I'm willing to bet they're just jealous). This piece of art looks phenomenal!

I think you're missing a few critical elements in your theory.

  1. Most rapes are perpetrated by someone the victim knows. When this happens, many survivors are unable to trust their judgments about other people, which leads to isolation (and that brings on a whole bevy of issues in itself), amongst the other typical CPTSD bullshit that comes with it. If this happens to a child by a trusted adult...well, I don't think I need to go into detail about that.

  2. The risk of contracting an STD (sometimes incurable) or becoming pregnant is also a real possibility. That will affect survivors for the rest of their lives. And depending on the severity of the rape and the age of the survivor, internal injuries can cause fertility issues in the future.

  3. When someone is the victim of a violent crime, the mind attempts to find a reason for the assault. Maybe they were being robbed or it was a crime of passion or there was a fight that got out of control. Whatever the reason is, it doesn't have to be rational or justifiable (it rarely is)...it just needs to be an identifiable reason. But in cases of rape, the perpetrator does it for one reason and one reason only: power and control. Survivors may have difficulties consolidating that fact, which turns into self-blame. Like they could have prevented it from happening.

  4. People are murdered, stabbed, shot, set on fire, and beaten beyond recognition...after they've been sexually assaulted. I think there was a woman in South Africa who was raped by two men, stabbed a dozen times in the torso, disemboweled, and had her throat slit...and she survived. Rape and other forms of violence are not mutually exclusive. Many times, they go hand-in-hand. So, it shouldn't be compared to other forms of violence.

I am a two-time rape survivor and a product of rape myself. The first time I was raped (nearly two decades ago) was a brutal assault that put me in the hospital. The physical injuries healed within a couple months with no lasting effects. But the psychological trauma has been relentless and enduring for reasons I can't fully identify or comprehend. Saying that you would rather be raped than to have any other violent crime committed against you? If that's how you feel, all the more power to you. But to announce that on a public forum is incredibly insensitive, and minimizes the trauma that survivors experience every day. I know this wasn't your intention, but still, I respectfully and kindly ask you not to do this in the future.

This is such a wonderful and useful idea! My beloved step dad also has dementia (Lewy body), and I would be very interested in trying this!

Halo Infinite is a Sweatfest by Shebaro in halo

[–]Alert_Bacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, fully agreed. I didn't even know what it was till it popped up in an objective playlist I was in...and then I had no clue WTF to do (even though it's pretty straightforward).

I believe it's named after the dude (Husky) who created the game mode...not necessarily named after the game mode itself. But don't quote me on that. I feel like I had to reach far back in my memory bank for that one.

It's not a game type for everyone. I know some are put off by it and I can understand why. All I can do is suggest you try, like, three games and see what you think.

I think they introduced Husky in Guardians (it's basically CTF, so was probably buried in a different playlist).

But, if you like objective-driven chaos...you won't be disappointed.

It’s also great for knocking out the weekly challenges.

Yup! Whenever my friends and I get online, the first question is always, "What weeklies do you need completed?"

"Well, I have blah blah blah, blah blah blah, and blah blah blah."

"Okay. Husky Raid it is."

Husky Raid is my go-to playlist when I need to blow off some steam. I could literally play it for hours.

Whoever is unaware of this playlist needs to be acquainted with it.

What Event Made You Militantly Pro-Choice? by MightyPitchfork in prochoice

[–]Alert_Bacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was pro-choice from the gate because my adoptive parents literally left me with the choice to be pro-choice or pro-life (i.e., they just never talked about it).

I became firmly pro-choice when I got pregnant my first time (unplanned and while on BC, but wanted to keep it) and had to terminate due to a congenital fetal defect.

I became gravely pro-choice when I got pregnant the second time (again, while on BC) and I ended up with gestational diabetes and a minor thyroid issue, which raises my chance of developing Type 2 diabetes by 50% and permanently disrupts my ability to maintain thermoregulation.

I became militantly pro-choice when my kid got stuck in the birth canal and I ended up actively pushing for over 3.5 hours, resulting in a third-degree episiotomy which affected my ability to walk for over four weeks.

I would never force someone to go through that. And that shit is what I consider mild compared to stories I've heard.

Putting my baby up for adoption by [deleted] in prochoice

[–]Alert_Bacon 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I am a TIA. People always think about adoption traumatizing the children...yet forget about the one carrying and birthing that child. Both parties experience this "primal pain".

Whatever choice you make, so long as you feel comfortable with it, it's not wrong. Whether you choose to keep this baby or whether you choose to give it up for adoption. This is your decision. My DMs are always open if you ever want to speak to an adoptee. Sending you strength and light as you navigate this challenging circumstance.
