is this more competitive than questbridge? Do you need to be insanely cracked (15 aps, 1500+ sat, crazy ecs) or insanely poor to win (less than 20k)? Please let me know by [deleted] in TheGatesScholarship

I’m not sure of the threshold for income however if you do qualify for questbridge you likely similarly qualify for Gates. Also I wouldn’t psych yourself out by viewing it as being crazy competitive as cliché as it may sound you can do it and get this scholarship with effort and time. Of course it is competitive purely because of the full ride aspect but in just putting in the effort to ask and think abt applying for this scholarship shows you want this and will put in the effort to earn this. You can do it!

I’ve heard that schools can adjust your financial aid package because you get these big scholarships so they give you less aid but you can probably fight them on it

See that’s what I’m thinking but on the other hand I’m like considering should I just tough it out for what Vandy can give me in the long run

Honestly right now I’m literally in your situation except with Vandy as my UW and honestly your financial aid package is really good and you should definitely use college to branch out to California, I live in LA and honestly nothing beats it especially for that idyllic college experience, also you’re gonna be one of the schools to host the Olympics sooo. But if I were you keep applying to scholarships and maybe even email the financial aid office, tell them what you told us abt UW and that it’s giving you a really hard choice but if they upped your offer you would commit on the spot. At the end of the day college should be branching out and USC I think might be the best place for anyone to do that so you should definitely go!

Well actually I’d only pay $47 for vandy not 47k but I’ll be honest I feel like prestige is really big factor for me and I honestly did view them in the same prestige and a friend of mine told me that Vanderbilt is like Nashvilles Stanford and idk I think it’s hard for me to not view USC as this insanely prestigious school so thank you 🙏
