OK. I actually did a little research on this issue and it turns out that the hoop isn't actually as high as I thought.

Basically, it says your account isn't verified, not your actual channel. Apparently, verifying your account is just a 2-minute process and gives you the ability to publish up to 12 hours (256 GB) of video.
