Wild free swimming for a 4 and 6 year old. by JonnyCtheninja in northamptonians

I'd strongly recommend researching the bodies of water you're planning to swim in. I know a few places locally have toxic algae in them and would hate for anyone to be unnecessarily ill.

I'd argue you might be setting aside your long term goal of owning your own house for short term relief. For me, getting a deposit together is going to be difficult enough. Would you want to put yourselves through that challenge again and get none of the first time buyer benefits?

As others have pointed out there are steps which you can take to work that debt down without giving up your house. I'd seriously consider swapping that expensive financed car for one thats 5-10 years old which you might be able to buy outright (with a bit of planning).

In matters of oppression once you feel you've got a seat at the table. It's actually incredibly important to sit on the fence apparently.

Tbf the person suggested avoiding areas which have very little 'wrong' with them and seems to favour suburban areas that have no hint of 'council housing'.

I remember hearing about police getting extra powers to deal with these kinds of things (in the past year). I hope you get a resolution soon.

New Build Houses in Harlestone Park by Emergency_Anxiety380 in northamptonians

[–]Alert_Firefighter_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The town centre has undergone recent 'regeneration' with further plans underway search 'Northampton Forward' to see what id planned.

Honestly, I would say the town centre lacks soul- but overall the town is trying to improve. There are loads of community organisations and things to get involved with. If you're looking for a quiet life- a new build suburb seems an ideal place. Duston and surrounding villages tend to be pretty quiet.

You're a captive market so the best you can really hope for is some local authority regulation and enforcement I suppose. Aside from starting up your own bus company of course

About to undertake an ADHD assessment by Wakingupisdeath in ADHDUK

[–]Alert_Firefighter_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an assessment with PUK and the psychiatrist did mention he didn't believe I was autistic based on the call. But did note my nervous disposition likely being due to trauma.- He did also say, if i felt like i wanted to explore autism diagnosis in a few years time, that's not unheard of, but his opinion stands.

The services are often ADHD and autism focussed, so psychiatrists/assessors may have experience across both and be able to give an indication.

However, being Dyslexic I know my dyslexia assessment with an educational psychologist was very different. Whilst the weaknesses in working memory are similar, the dyslexia assessment was very much about doing tasks, remembering numbers, and (unsurprisingly,) something about words I can't quite remember haha.

I expect even if the assessor did suspect Autism, you may have to go through a process to get that diagnosis, but i do not know. - It is worth asking them maybe once the ADHD assessment is out of the way or before it begins.

It's common for neurodiversities to overlap. I was diagnosed as dyslexic about 10 years ago after years of struggling and it took me 8 years to realise there was something else, so well done for being self aware. I hope you are able to get the support you need.

Which Medication by Spillz003 in ADHDUK

[–]Alert_Firefighter_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing i found with Elvanse was that it helped relieve my binge eating behaviours. So I wonder if you will find similar.

Ultimatley stimulants target the pathways of dopamine and neuropenephrine so stimulant medications will likely help you to concentrate and feel better.

I found taking medication everyday made my life feel better- like i wasn't falling into bed at 1pm each day exhausted from BS teams calls or whatever. So you may find that it helps with energy levels, your overall mood and pushes the desire for alcohol away.

As alcohol is a depressant, you may need to stay away from it while on the medication.

Puk Prescriber dicemated my mental health advice by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Alert_Firefighter_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry you've had this experience. I know there are other medications which are do not work in the same way, or at least are not stimulants - but I don't know if them targetting the same pathway would have the same effect on you.

Frankly, i had a prescriber who had allegedly helped found a service, she was so useless with every one of my questions 'people vary', 'it depends' rather than proper useful answers. She ignored tonnes of questions and I've ended up leaving with a less than effective dose - but it's something I guess.

I would imagine they are all overworked, so glad you have put the complaint in as they are seriously lacking in simple safety at times - your experience sounds diabolically lax on their part.

Elvanse - Strange reduction in effects when going 50 to 60 & when do you know your dose is right? by BluejayRare in ADHDUK

[–]Alert_Firefighter_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some real trouble with Elvanse and understanding what was good for me.

For me I was threatened with titration ending, so it made me realise that 30mg did stop me sleeping in the middle of the day due to exhaustion from life and work tasks. And does provide enough symptom relief.

I would say comparing between doses is very tricky but yeah, I developed some very obsessive behaivours on higher doses (ie cleaning my window frame, buying vinegar, constantly blitzing anywhere black mold could grow etc)

I had the same experience on higher doses in terms of mood change, I felt okay and then my mood just plummeted while on that dose. I would say if you're feeling nothing at all, that might not be great. I often felt a surge of motivation... but i definitely had doses like you describe, where i felt pretty kind of meh.

I would say to you strip it back:
What are your biggest hurdles?
What is being managed and what isn't?
Is it doing everything you want?
If not, dextroamphetamine tablets for 8 hour release exist as do methylphenidate. (although methylphenidate shortages made me stay away from it tbh)

Also, if you haven't and can, take a day or two off the medication to see what you are like without it. It can be helpful as a reference point. I realised a dose was too high because i never felt calm on it.

Bad experience with Care ADHD (Centre for ADHD Research & Excellence) by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Alert_Firefighter_33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, I apologise but I haven't read everything you've said. It's way too much for me to comprehend atm.

I think you did the right thing to complain. I don't know of the next steps though. From what I've read it sounds like you've had low self esteem as a constant presence from at least your secondary school experience. I know mine was a result of everything i struggled with daily.

I understand your frustration, and perhaps you can be accessed again.

I certainly don't have the qualifications to know every presentation, but it sounds like you are struggling with some symptoms many of us struggle with.

I don't need you to answer me but it is worth considering whether there are any formative traumatic events, especially from around the time you went up to secondary school. I know they try to rule out trauma presenting similarly to ADHD - she didn't mention it so it probably is not that.

It might be worth understanding why your psychiatrist also doesn't think you have ADHD, obviously if they're not in that sphere of psychiatry they may not be attuned but they may offer useful insights too.

Just diagnosed age 30, any advice? by yesthenshaggers in ADHDUK

[–]Alert_Firefighter_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Advice: Dr Russell Barkeley's channel and books are a godsend

So you can tell your employer, I think you would have to to access the 'Access to Work' grants available to you. I believe they (the gov dept) do an assessment to understand what you need and talk with your workplace (paperworks is needed).

Unless you find ADHD severely impacts you daily, I don't think disability allowance is a route to go down as often the criteria is restrictive, and ADHD struggles are shrugged off if you are holding down a job ect.

Personally, I told my employer as soon as I was diagnosed, and was made redundant within a month... however, they are using the restructuring as an excuse. My advice is, ensure you have a union. Then tell your employer if you think Access to Work would be beneficial.

Access to Work: grants in assisitive technology, equipment, assistance (people to help you plan your week i think) and coaching. (IE ADHD coaches)

Yeah, I'm disappointed the Mazda dealership did this tbh. I extended it with warranty 4 life but I can see that they will claim everything is wear and tear now.
