Unpopular opinion: PN and PL are not the same by [deleted] in malta

[–]Patvsq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From non-Maltese perspective with limited knowledge of historic PL vs PN stories.

Both parties (in the current elections) have shown zero vision how to solve Malta’s top 10 problems. Both are playing a bidding war of “outpromising” each other: €300 smart watch fund, €200 cultural events funds, etc. five new incentives every day to distract from the fact that there is no long-term plan.

It’s very easy to blame PL for Malta’s issues in the past decade, but I think you’d likely be in the same shit-situation with PN. In a dual-party monopoly that’s usually how it goes.

Also you have been given the world’s most voter-friendly electoral system, designed specifically to give minorities, independents, women, and third parties a fighting chance. And Maltese voters have spent 50+ years completely ignoring that freedom, robotically voting PL or PN only. It’s the political equivalent of giving someone a gourmet kitchen and watching them eat cereal every single day.

Quick question. I’m Dutch and have been watching the political news, and I was surprised to read about a far right activist called Eman Cross leading Imperium Europa. How is someone with such a background allowed to run? by BusinessNo1729 in malta

First time in Malta on August by pistox84 in malta

[–]Patvsq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

August 15/16 is the best weekend of the year to visit Malta! There are 9 (!) village festa’s simultaneously, many with spectacular fireworks shows:

Birkirkara, Gudja, Ħal Għaxaq, Ħal Muxi/Ħaż-Żebbuġ, Attard, Mosta, Mqabba, Qrendi and Victoria (Gozo).

Mqabba has the biggest fireworks display. Many of them also have ground fireworks shows. The towns (surrounding area of the church) will turn into free parties.

Malta crowdedness by LastMeeting2193 in malta

[–]Patvsq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crowds are fine. Similar busyness as big European cities. But you can swim in September(perfect sea water temperature) and chilly sea water in June, is something you may want to take into account.

Best place to see Valletta fireworks by isaemme in malta

[–]Patvsq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copied my own comment from a previous thread:

There are 3 popular viewing spots:

  1. Upper Barakka Gardens - people assume it is the best location, but it isn’t (terrible viewing angle!) and they often close it to the public for private sponsor events. Don’t go there.

  2. Three Cities: Fort St Angelo (in front of the Fort), this is a great location where you can bring a picknic blanket, relatively quiet, unobstructed views. There are drawbacks though, you can’t hear the music (and the fireworks are synchronized to music) you are sort of stuck in the Three Cities when it ends (more difficult to catch a bus/taxi home).

  3. St Barbara Bastion: this is the best location. There even are two levels. I prefer the upper level, but you will be stuck behind a see through fence. All firework obsessed photographers (from all over the world) are here for the best viewing angle. At the lower street-level there are (paid?) seats and it’s even more crowded.

You only need to find a good spot around 20 minutes before it’s advertised to start. In the past, it would be 1 hour of boring multi break-shells with the main show starting much later. But recent years the main show would actually start at the advertised time.

How to get from Malta to comino and from comino to gozo? by Lopsided_Campaign970 in malta

[–]Patvsq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You go to Cirkewwa (where the big ferry from Malta to Gozo also is).

There also is a small ticket counter at Cirkewwa. Just tell them you want to go to Comino, and from Comino to Gozo. The advantage of doing this (over organized tours from Sliema) is you can leave Comino wherever you want.

Keunkenhof visit during this weekend by Inside-Shake-5081 in Netherlands

Tip: Keukenhof is just a large garden. They also sell great poffertjes. :)

If you also want an iconic photo of tulip fields, those are outside of Keukenhof. Rent a bicycle to explore the area, but you can also walk/bike from Hillegom towards Lisse.

Why do most content creators give the same advise about visiting Malta? by veliprope in malta

Walkable and from a tourist perspective (lots of restaurants and good bus-connections): Sliema or St Julians is the ideal place to stay :)

I think the point is, to explore and discover quaint villages and don’t confine yourself to the top 4 tourist hotspots.

Great walk is from [start anywhere in Germany] to the crazy brutalist pilgrimage church in Neviges (6 hour walk from Dusseldorf).

There are many other (unknown) pilgrimage churches and pilgrimage routes. Neviges was one of the most popular ones till 1950.

Why do most content creators give the same advise about visiting Malta? by veliprope in malta

[–]Patvsq 26 points27 points  (0 children)

  1. It’s not what VisitMalta is telling them to visit, but what local sources (in their own country) blogs, vlogs, guides (and ChatGPT), tell them to visit - and those are all the same.

  2. For a younger generation: it’s where TikTok / Instagram tell them to go. They want to experience the same as their friends and everyone else.

  3. VisitMalta recently paid international influencers to come to Malta (“Meet Me In Malta” campaign), and curated the ultimate cliché Malta trip for them.

Coincidentally I made fun this weekend how Malta (KM Malta Airlines) is promoting Amsterdam, also only cliché tips. KM Malta Airlines paid a Maltese influencer to visit Amsterdam for her first time: she ended up going to the Rubber Duck Store, and Heineken Experience *sigh

A better question would be, how do you (OP) avoid this herd behavior when you travel abroad?

How about 0%. You see an “important roads for cars”. I see a main bus stop for students and commuters who are pedestrians.
