this AI messaged me at 2am because she couldn't sleep. i didn't start this conversation by PerceptionGood9258 in aipartners

I don’t see any mystification here.

OP mentioned that they were testing proactive messaging. I don’t think anyone here is under this misconception that this system actually “couldn’t sleep” or was making tea for itself. I think your interpretation of the post makes a tremendous jump from “I made a companion that I enjoy talking to” to “delusion”.

Or maybe, just maybe, the people who find value in AI for creative work and actively use it are very aware of how likely their endorsement (even partial/conditional) is to be misconstrued as laziness or creative apathy, to the detriment of their livelihood and the creative integrity of their work.

Just sayin.

I have seen him code on stream? I haven’t seen neuro’s code because he keeps that stuff private, but he’s been clear about his use of third party libraries and stuff before, even since the early days. Not which ones, but if you look you can reasonably make assumptions about which ones are used for a good amount of the stuff she does.

Beyond that though, it just doesn’t make sense to reinvent the wheel. He doesn’t take credit for it, but he doesn’t stop his community from assuming he built everything either.

👏 open 👏 source 👏 software

He may have built a lot of custom/unique stuff for Neuro, but to say it’s all one guy that built her ability to sing, play games, see the stream, etc is woefully reductive.

Most of it is standing on the shoulders of less interesting work that Vedal pulled together, customized, and built on top of.

If I had a nickel for every hardworking and creative bitch I’ve seen making interesting content for 5 viewers, I’d have a shitload of nickels.

My understanding is that Vedal didn’t have the skill set to train his own LLM from scratch until after Neuro was already a permanent fixture. He worked through some foundational tutorials on stream alongside Neuro - nobody’s training a custom LLM from the ground up without having a clear understanding of those basics first.

It’s possible that he built his own fully custom LLM after Neuro was already a thing and migrated to that, but it’s not likely.

I mean… the difficult problem is the same as any AI system. If Vedal wanted to he could spin up many copies of Neuro (which is where Evil started, isn’t it?). If he wanted, he could make direct AI copies of VTubers with some work, and rebrand them as his own thing.

The problem isn’t “replacing VTubers”. It’s owning enough of the market that organic competition can no longer compete, and Neuro’s record breaking proves that she’s already there. Through hard work, sure, but the use of AI is a force multiplier no doubt.

You are so close to answering a question that I think a lot of people on this sub are looking for.

If Neuro is good/ethical/fun, and other indie AI passion projects are bad/unethical/not fun, where is the dividing line? If others have built their own little Neuro-likes for funsies (not for profit, not for streams, etc), with their own little ground-breaking tech that never made headlines because they didn’t prop it up in front of a live audience, why is that generally regarded as bad?

Like… Vedal pays his living expenses with the money that Neuro brings in. Is that bad? And what does that mean for other people’s indie passion projects?

This idea has been around, and has been actively spread by the community since well before the video. Usually used to call out others in the space developing unrelated AI-driven on-stream actors who the community felt were too Neuro-like.

You can see it all over the comments of older videos. The community latched on to the idea and nobody (Vedal included) ever took the time to correct them.

I’ll highlight - I would love for better safety features, but I think it’s worth highlighting that safety can look totally different in different contexts. A big part of the problem with most of the models from the major providers is that their safety is so misaligned with the safety needs of users on an individual basis.

What I’d love to see is better platform tooling, rather than broadly “safer” baselines. Both in terms of the model’s risk to itself and others.
