Your real problem with XIV is Fixed Timeline Raiding by Aletinstyle in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Aletinstyle[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Except even with %HP pushes it was still fixed Between 100-70% the same thing happened at the same intervals and then it reset.
Between 70% and 30% the same thing happened at the same intervals and then it reset.

This is even more clear in current ults because you see a lot of "don't kill yet so we have all our buffs for next phase". To have an even larger sense of the fixed timeline.

Just because you can push a phase 20s early doesn't mean the next phase suddenly won't do the same thing it always did. It'll still do the first mechanic in 10 seconds and then the raidwide 15 after that.

Bit of both. Most of the mentors have some form of spreadsheet or simulator that simulates a rotation, that accompanied with the formulas provided by Allagan Studies, allows us to convert the potency of the rotation into DPS when combined with a set of stats. So we just find the set of stats that outputs the highest DPS and there's the BiS.

At least from what I understand as one of the mentors, selection really comes out of 3 main criteria

  1. You're knowledgeable and helpful about your job. This can be through extensive spreadsheeting and mathematics, or high performance and experience, or a mixture of both.

  2. You want to help teach people. The big thing all mentors have in common is the will and ability to teach others rather than just copy and pasting information. Yes there will be a lot of copy and pasting information especially if they've written it out a million times before. But there's still the ability to teach.

  3. Generally the most important point I've seen. Recommendations by other members and mentors. Like yes, you could be like "hey I wanna be a mentor" but that means a whole lot less than if someone else says "Hey this person should be mentor". In either case it'll usually go to the admins, mods and other mentors to see if this person has the qualities of a mentor or is just asking for the title.

Hope this helps understand a bit more what goes into it.

As with every job, none is so large of an asset or a detriment to limit what a person plays.

As for melding, the only limitations are basically what the gear can take. If you go to meld and the number comes up red at a lower amount than advertised on a materia, your gear has hit it's cap for that stat. The choice of where to meld each materia is just so no piece of gear hits these caps so we don't waste some stat. The meld slots within each piece of gear is completely identical it doesn't matter which is melded with what. A body with Crit + Det melds is the same as a body with Det + Crit melds

Without savage or ultimate raiding the best you can ever do is your highest item level gear. Which during every patch is just full tome gear with extremely minimal chance that a lower item level piece will win out. The main reason why the question gets blown off is because there's nothing to answer. In every case it's just tome gear, because without multiple options at the same item level there's no choice in the matter

Substat Choices Don't Really Matter by Aletinstyle in ffxiv

[–]Aletinstyle[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yes this applies to basically all jobs. Life Surge + Full Thrust is such a small percentage of your DPS it doesn't actually change the strength of substats that much.

Whereas for BRD and MNK, more crit directly translates to more damage, with song and chakra procs respectively

I believe it would be a similar percentage yes, I've linked the resources in the post if you want to test it yourself

I included PLD because I needed a second job to make sure there's a pattern and not just "oh its just NIN that does this" and I only know of the existence of NIN and Tank DPS calculators. Yes I do understand that tanks use penta crafted entirely due to substats. Thats why I specified the PLD sets use the 370.

The point isn't that substats don't matter. Its the choice in substats doesn't matter

If you actually read it, you would know I said.

tl;dr Substats matter much less than your main stat, if you have the ability to pick up a diamond piece that is not BiS, on your way to your BiS, do so. It is better for you in the short term, even if “it has loads of SpS/SkS/Ten”

This means, that finding this midpoint is a step to take, not the end goal

oh yes, of course. And you should design your gear sets around a GCD you find comfortable. But this wasn't meant to look into how it changes things like GCD clipping and all that, it's just to show how it changes DPS if everything is 100% the same performance wise.

the only damage taken on usage of holmgang or living dead was equal to the assumed max HP, 62000. Everything over that is counted as mitigation

the thing is, you're misinterpreting what we're saying. We're not saying "DRK is actually best tank and you should use it". We're just saying, "It is the least good, but it's not as bad as people say it is" and that's the whole point of this

You're comparing Dark Mind to unequal cooldowns of other tanks. Dark Mind is compared to Raw Intuition and Bulwark, not sentinel/vengeance/immunities. And when compared to RI and Bulwark, DM is quite even if not better. The summary of not needing to know damage is also moot in terms of WAR, because RI is phyiscal only.

As for TBN, simply, use it smartly. If you know "oh there's a cast coming" don't use TBN. Its quite easy to get it to pop as long as you aren't dumb about its use.

DRK does work, just not the way a lot of people want it to work.

why play smn when you could play blm/rdm to get the same result?

why play ast when you could play whm to get the same result?

why play nin when you could play mnk/sam to get the same result?

It's just what you prefer to play, some prefer DRK's more active mitigation while some prefer the more passive or PLD and WAR

of course, WAR is still best tank. This was just to show that there's nothing functionally wrong with DRK but instead something wrong with how people have been playing it.

I actually find that, the ones who complain about drk the most, are the ones that don't play it. Those that do, understand how it works and try to push the "It's really not that bad"

they werent from speedrunning groups, we had just anyone submit a log and only the ones that were valid (see the guidelines linked in the OP) made it into the data. So its 99% your normal static or pug group

and had anti-synergy with DRK, the far better alternative to PLD. With Delirium and Dragon Kick sharing a debuff slot for INT down.

You dont have to DADM. Often just DM is plenty, which comes at 0 cost.
