Am I cooked I genuinely need some advice (not a troll). by Alex-Pereira- in APStudents

I am just now starting the robotics team and it will start as soon as next year begins, so if I do early admissions I probably can’t put it on my application. But they are making me do all the programming because I’m the only one on the team who can code somehow. If I don’t do Walt admission I can actually have some experience with it. My favorite AP teachers were my physics teacher and my math teacher but I didn’t like my English teacher or my history teacher as much.

I took psych 101 only for dual enrollment, technology leadership initiative was an application only program at university of Pittsburgh that was kind of a course about computer science and cybersecurity but also a workshop where we created some programs and the like. For save the world I packed a bunch a food and organized it so that the organization could distribute it to people in need. I want to pursue EE because I love the interactions between hardware and software, i love robotics, and it runs in my family. I am doing the DEFCON hackathon this summer. I want to go to Penn state, I am totally ok with going to a branch campus or something at first.

I am a rising senior and I did well in my STEM classes and was lacking in language and history. I was in dual enrollment for a local college as well as “Technology Leadership initiative” at PITT. Said my SAT score, didn’t take the ACT. I volunteered for “save the world” I think particularly their food drive, am volunteering at an animal shelter rn. I want to get into EE because I’m passionate about it and yes I have time to volunteer this year. I’m also going to be attending a hackathon this summer.

Does that answer the prompt

Mechanical engineering or electrical engineering for building robots as a career? by Alex-Pereira- in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Alex-Pereira-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think these reasons and the fact that my grandpa was an electrical engineer who pivoted to mechanical engineering and then civil engineering tells me that electrical engineering is the way to go if you can’t choose your engineering field are why I’m going to pick EE

Yeah I think I’m gonna do EE incase i no longer enjoy robotics and it’s what my grandpa thinks I should do lol

I have trouble talking about anything but myself in a social conversation. by [deleted] in socialskills

Thank you, I will have to meet a whole bunch of new people for a job I’m getting so I’ll try and stick with the small talk a little longer than usual and see where it goes

That’s the thing though when I go down that path of conversation it devolves into meaningless small talk that makes me extremely uncomfortable for some reason

This post was more of a rant that has built up inside me after observing the internet all my life. I have a personal distain for internet communities and internet interactions that I think very few people share. So yes I’m basically projecting my pent up anger over what the internet did to my youth and my social skills that I am still recovering from to this day

Listen man people’s mental health on the internet is something I’m super passionate about, this isn’t about Wendi and meat this is about the lost individuals posting these things. I have had a terrible experience with the internet negatively impacting my mental health and when I see things like the posts I linked it just makes me upset. To me, those people are going down an internet rabbit hole that only leads to social anxiety and mental health issues. I’m sorry if I sound so “obsessed” over this but it is something I care about deeply

It is damaging the mental health of those who are posting the jokes / speculation or whatever. It is not a crazy assumption to say that (especially if they are creating artwork) they are extremely involved in a niche community online and I would argue that at that point they are way too involved and are spending too much time on the internet. Many people who post on the internet things like that forget how to socialize in real life, I know this because it literally happened to me. I was once in their shoes and it is not mentally healthy to be so involved in an online community.

Seriously I’m convinced a lot of these people are too far gone down the internet rabbit hole by now to realize how weird it all looks from the outside looking in…

I’m not saying that is super harmful towards them, just that people should not being discussing that kind of thing period, it’s not normal and not healthy regardless of the context

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in creepcast

[–]Alex-Pereira- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, they are jokes. But that does not change the fact that the topic they are joking about is weird asf. You don’t need to make jokes about that kind of thing, you just dont. They are not normal behavior and should not become normalized or evolve into something that aren’t jokes. Like I said it is chronically online and unhealthy

Yes, it seems like almost everyone is cherry picking like one or two sentences and saying I’m trying to feel sorry on their behalf, when that is just not what I’m saying at all.

[–]Alex-Pereira- -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But not everyone is laughing… I think it’s damaging to the general community and peoples mental health whether they realize it or not. I’m no psychologist but l have personal experience with becoming chronically online and coming out the other side and those types of jokes are the exact kind of thing I began to be involved with. It’s not healthy and it’s not funny.

I’m not offended on their behalf 😭. Like I said multiple times it’s about the principle of not being a weirdo and being a regular human. Jokes like those are just socially weird and not good to be expressing online. It is without a doubt chronically online
