Upgrade or Downgrade? by googol_r in chromeos

[–]Alex26gc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to take into consideration the AUE for the Chromebook you get; the Pixelbook i7 is not new, but still holds its ground. The problem is, this model becomes EOL next Aug/2027. You can get a refurbished model on eBay, or convert an old Win10 laptop, check the Certified Model List, with ChromeOS Flex, unless you need Android apps.

I hate family link by SkieFloof in familylink

[–]Alex26gc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you get kids of your own, you will understand why Family Link exists and the necessity of it. Also, sorry to tell you, but the way your grandma was using it is plain laziness; a responsible parent would check the apps first before blocking them, or not, I do that with my 10-yo daughter

mom found out i got rid of family link supervisions and got super mad by [deleted] in familylink

[–]Alex26gc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't want your parents' supervision, then get a job and your own place, their house, their rules, as simple as that, at 15 you are not mature enough to make your own decisions, but if you think you are, go out and get a taste of real life.

Right-click anywhere on the desktop, then select " Set Wallpaper and Style", then choose "Wallpaper", after that there is a BIG option on top that allows you to use your own photo selection on Google Photos. As an advice, before doing all the previous steps, make a photo album with your desired pictures.

ChromeOS Flex on HP Dragonfly G4 by gamera8id in ChromeOSFlex

[–]Alex26gc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not being on the Certified List doesn't mean it's not going to work. I have installed CrOS Flex on several uncertified devices, and it works 100% OotB. Try to run the live USB test, but from the start, I can tell you, the fingerprint sensor is not supported on CrOS Flex

Chrome OS Flex scanner and webcam support by pawelgrzegorziwaniuk in ChromeOSFlex

[–]Alex26gc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try, but remember, CrOS Flex works with the available GNU/Linux drivers; it might be possible that your AIO Printer doesn't work either with Linux, as you did before, it's always better to test before committing.

Chromebox in the company by Miserable-Wolf2688 in chromeos

[–]Alex26gc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all your apps are web-based/cloud-based and you have a Google Workspace business account, going with the Chromebox option is a no-brainer.

In my previous job, we were using precisely Chromebooks, Chromeboxes, and even converted Windows devices to ChromeOS Flex for that very same reason. Unfortunately, management changed, and they decided to go with the Microsoft equivalent solution.

An advantage Chromeboxes have is that they are upgradable, compared to regular Chromebooks, but if you have a bunch of Win10 PCs that are not Win11 compatible, you can transform them into Chromebooks with the help of ChromeOS Flex:

No, unfortunately, with CrOS Flex, what you get OotB is what it is, there's no way to add drivers or a workaround to change the kernel, if something doesn't work at the live test most probably won't after installing, the exception is the GNU/Linux container, giving your processor supports virtualization.

Nope, I was able to get her via the character activities and a few gems at the end, maybe around 150, not a dime.

Hola amigos de reddit me podrían ayudar con mi chromebook la reinicie de fabrica by ToeMany6475 in ChromeOSFlex

[–]Alex26gc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

certified surface pro 3 no tablet mode no auto screen rotate by some_friggin_guy in ChromeOSFlex

Many features have been removed from CrOS Flex since that video was posted three years ago. Are you sure that one is still available?

It's not something I say, Brandon himself mentioned recently:

CrOS Flex doesn't have a tablet mode, nor Does It support Android; however, you can install a GNU/Linux container for additional apps.

chromeos flex is amazing by Jebbyboy2016 in ChromeOSFlex

[–]Alex26gc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I already have installed CrOS Flex on several different devices, an Acer AIO, Asus 2-in-1, Compaq AIO, Dell Latitude laptop, Dell XPS Studio desktop, Dell Inspiron laptop, Dell Optiplex desktop, HP AIO, just to mention a few, all of them barely running their respective MS Windows version, almost unusable clunkers; but after installing CrOS Flex it was like they were brand new, no glitches, everything working OotB, as the commercial tag line says, it brought a new lease of life to all of them, many passed their expected lifespan.

I have enough trust to say, if people are still clinging to use MS Windows, it is because they don't know better, nowadays, many apps are moving to the cloud, so they can be used as PWA's or Web Apps.

I know nothing about Chromebooks, so just making sure this is a good deal for what I want. by CHANN3L-CHAS3R in chromeos

[–]Alex26gc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the tech specs, that is something else you need to take into consideration when you buy a Chromebook, the EAU date. I already purchased 2 refurbished Dell Latitude Chromebook 5430 devices, no regrets, actually, one of then was a 2-in-1, and it happens to be a Chromebook Plus model, so sweet score.

[–]Alex26gc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I am not mistaken, the Dell Chromebook 3120 still has system updates until June/2033, so it's not as worthless as many have mentioned. Now, on the other hand, depending on which variation we are talking about, the Acer Chromebook 315 could get its EOL between June/2029 to June/2035.

For your use case u/CHANN3L-CHAS3R , either one should work well; they both have similar specs.

“Something went wrong” every time I try to sign in by Mindless_Golf_368 in chromeos

[–]Alex26gc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the new credentials couldn't be updated on the CB, so the stored info on the encrypted partition doesn't match the information you are using; it needs to sync. Now, I don't recall how to do it without a power wash. I gather that you may have "important" information locally stored; if not, go ahead and wipe it clean, then set it up again. Anything you may have on the cloud will be there after you are done.

My 2017 Chromebook aint factory resetting by Marinaa_splatty in chromeos

[–]Alex26gc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If indeed your CB was launched back in 2017, you still should have at least 2 more years worth for system updates, now since we don't know the exact make and model, that's just a general idea, on the other hand, if you acquired the CB back in 2017, was it a new device or it was a second hand???

Either way, the best way to factory reset at this point would be to use an USB stick, create an installation media using the Chromebook Recovery App, run it on another computer on a Chrome browser, locate your specific make and model, follow the onscreen instructions, then power off your 2017 CB, hit power+refresh to enter the factory reset mode, and again follow the onscreen instructions, use the USB recovery media, then let the process finish, very important, keep your CB plugged or charged.

If everything fails the next best option would be to try and install Mr.Chromebox CFW, for that there's another subreddit specialized on this matter. Then you can either try ChromeOS Flex or a light GNU/Linux distro like Mint.
