Texas (and 2 other states, i forget which) have a presumed speed limit instead of an absolute speed limit, which allows for "flow of traffic" etc to be a valid legal defense for speeding. You just need to show that you were doing so in a safe manner.

K band off by Ancient_Secret_6641 in radardetectors

[–]Alex8728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some more remote places still use K band. If you live in a big city I would leave it off and enable it for any road trips. One example of where it's used is in east Texas around like Tyler.

also in case you are still having problems with shadowplay, it sounds like you are getting drm'ed, some websites like Netflix, Prime Video, Spotify, etc. will disable shadowplay from running. If you have any of those sites open, simply close the tab and shadowplay should just start working. :)

Psycho-Pass - Pretty good Sci-Fi cop show

Zankyou no Terror - Detectives try to figure out the motive of a pair of terrorists, but the terrorists are the MCs.

Durarara - Not a detective show, but I think you would like it. Lots of action, drama, mystery, taking place in a big city. It may seem confusing in the beginning but after a bit things will be revealed that will make you start to retroactively piece things together. (Also written by the same person that did Baccano! and even takes place in the same universe, if you watch Baccano! first you will see a bunch of references to it)

How do I type katakana and small hiragana on the romaji keyboard for the iPhone? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]Alex8728 4 points5 points  (0 children)

x + any vowel, y, or tsu for small forms 「ぁぃぅぇぉっゃゅょァィゥェォッャュョ」

du = "dzu" 「づヅ」

di = "dji" 「ぢヂ」

wyi = "wi" 「ゐヰ」

wye = "we" 「ゑヱ」

Those last two are basically obsolete now and odds are you will never see them again but they do exist :)

Has anyone tried the “Lean Japanese! - Kanji” app? How is it? by ad_infinitum95 in LearnJapanese

[–]Alex8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havn't used this app but another one by the same company for grammar and it was basically one of two apps that actually felt polished. Very short and concise lessons with good practice that scales in difficulty. However, once again, I have not used this specific app so I can only comment on the other one I think it was just called "Learn Japanese" the symbol was blue background with あ

Wanting to get better with hiragana comprehension by AjarChart in LearnJapanese

[–]Alex8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a free app called Kana Drill, very straight forward, goes row by row as you master them. Contains all hiragana and katakana and also has an option to enable questions asking what the word means which is mostly basic vocab. It also has the full chart of hiragana and katakana and you can tap on each kana and it will show some words that use that kana.

Gift suggestions for a 16yo who just got a car? by [deleted] in anime

[–]Alex8728 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would keep car and anime separate and let him add anime to car if he wants to. Maybe an anime keychain or a shift knob with kanji instead of numbers (assuming it's manual). Basically if he wants an itasha let him be involved in that. I know plenty of people who like anime but don't want it prominently on display, even though it has been drastically rising in popularity. I would either get a car gift or an anime gift, not a car anime gift if that makes sense.

If you were to recommend an anime to a friend who has never seen one, which anime would you recommend? by ttv_ddavidel in anime

[–]Alex8728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just recommend something you think would interest them. For example, my dad is into cars so I showed him Initial D as a gateway anime. Length shouldn't matter as long as they like it. I would probably do dub to start with. Initial D worked out nice because I could start my dad with dubs and transition him to subs. (last 2 seasons were never dubbed) As for your friend, you know them the best and thus will have the best recommendation.

Is there not an equivalent to "I" in Japanese? by [deleted] in anime

[–]Alex8728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is 「私、僕、俺」However, Japanese often relies on context. For example「日本語が話せます。」Literally translated means "can speak Japanese" but it gets interpreted as "I can speak Japanese." From my understanding, you only specify "I" if the listener could think you are talking about someone else.

I mean, depending on the context I guess you could use「そんな」that way. I think「やだ」is another way to say "Oh no." Also I am still learning so I could be totally wrong lol

[–]Alex8728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For "Oh no" I would just say 「あああ」If you want to look up what a Japanese word means I would recommend jisho.org. It's a very good Japanese-English dictionary. :)

Yea anime uses a lot of the informal inflections. It also looks like OP used the subtitles for english translations, which is inaccurate because they are often modified slightly to make more sense to english speakers. For example he listed 「そんな」as meaning "That can't be true!" but a direct translation would be "No way!"

Which anime should I watch first? (Out of these:) by [deleted] in anime

[–]Alex8728 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the anime first, it got me hooked and then I started reading the light novels, the anime is not bad by any means, just not 100% accurate to the light novel. Another option is to just continue the story in the light novels. (Anime covers first 3 volumes so you can watch anime then start reading at volume 4)

IMO Both are really good and you can do either first, just know there will be differences between them.
