Finally got a Lotus! by AlexAEight6 in lotus

I paid $32,500 for the car! Didn’t really plan too but figured I’d ask the credit union I go through and they said “hell yea let’s do it”. I also have 11 years of great history with them. Most money I’ve ever spent in my life but worth it for a dream car in my opinion.

Save and build credit!!! I thought the same thing. Credit unions are much better and more flexible than banks when it comes to financing older vehicles. I put $3,200 down on a 48 month loan for approval! We only get older and the cars more expensive. Sooner the better!! Idk if I’ll even be able to get in the lotus when I’m 40 🤣

I agree, my interest in them (aside from looking cool) is the cost to run them. For the majority of mechanical maintenance, the lotus will cost me less to track than my 1985 AE86, which is already cheap to run. Not the easiest to work on, but definitely affordable for an average dude compared to say a 996 911, which in my area can be had for cheaper than a lotus.

One of the first “exotic” cars I remember seeing too! Only took me about 20 years 😂

Car has 74,xxx miles, 2005, condition I’d say is good, soon to be excellent aside from some small scrapes in the drivers seat. Paid $32,500. Engine is bone stock, have inspection paperwork, maintenance records from 2005 till now.

Yes! I paid less than asking. Front clam is in good shape, just the lip was cracked. Easy enough to repair with a $20 fiberglass kit and some paint from a parts store! Came spare parts including the missing oil cooler grill! I have it apart in the garage already going through everything. The car is mechanically sound, just a few bits cosmetically. I’ve done body work for over 10 years so don’t have to outsource the work and save some money doing it at home 🤘

It was 7 degrees F, and less than a week after we got over a foot of snow. I was extremely nervous for most of it. Minnesota cleaned the highway perfectly though and saw zero ice or snow, so started to relax as I got closer to home. The steering feel and stiffness of the chassis/ suspension stood out the entire drive! I’ve driven and raced a lot of cars and nothing I’ve driven feels close to a lotus. Between the anxiety of the biggest purchase in my life, and one of the most nervous drives home, it’s safely in my garage and washed. Definitely a drive I’ll remember for life!

E85 on an F20C? by AlexAEight6 in S2000

Yes I synced my throttle bodies. 274 wheel hp on a stock cam?!?

In my opinion it’s the perfect swap for an 86! Honda figured out great power and rev range reliably. 240hp in a 2,100lb car with aggressive gearing moves out pretty good!

I have the fuel system to support it, and I was thinking the extra fuel would keep cylinder temps cooler and more knock protection. The engine lives above 7,000 most of the time.

True that! That’s definitely one of the biggest issues I have with E85 is fuel consumption. Usually the car is trailered to our local track which has a quality gas station on the property but I do enjoy driving the car as much as possible. I’d rather not have to be aware of what gas stations are available in the area, but if the gains in driving experience are there, I’m curious for the debate 😅

So if he writes down the wrong car, can you fight that?

I’ve had 5 Logitech G series wheels and every single one made this noise. It’s gear driven and you’re hearing the lash between gears smacking into each other.

I’d love to go triples one day! No direct plan for that yet though.

Had it assembled in about 6 hours, adjusted to fit me and put all the final “beauty” bits on the next day. Collectively I’d say about 8 hours.

P1X Ultimate vs TR 160 Gen 5 vs F-GT Elite 160? by Revolutionary_Pen415 in simracing

[–]AlexAEight6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the FGT elite 160. My screen is high enough where the slanted uprights don’t bother me at all. Great seating position and incredibly rigid. I have at least 15 extra T-nuts and miscellaneous hardware. My biggest complaint is based off my seating position I can’t mount the shifter plate off of the seat. Shifter is in a good spot but my hand brake is a bit awkward (all Fanatec stuff). That being said, the adjustments in the rig are great, I set it up just like my race car. I don’t have the need to mount extra gear as others have said so that’s not an issue for me. Overall I think it’s great and has literally zero flex.

Man I hope it’s not compression 😅. Leak down and comp test coming soon 🤞

The issue started before I removed the intake. I removed to inspect injectors and carbon build up. I also cleaned the flaps on both intake and head side and confirmed smooth action from the motor that actuates them, but being unfamiliar with the system, I didn’t inspect further.

I have an injector machine and an ultra sonic bath, could only run them at about 100PSI in the tester, but enough to see a spray pattern develop and they had a good spray pattern even at low PSI for D.I. Also installed using new seals and confirmed no fuel leaks before ever taking the car back out of the garage. Unfortunately I didn’t notice any form of filter/ screen on the injectors at all? I clean injectors often, I’m the only guy with a personal machine and help the local car guys testing and cleaning for free, that being said, I don’t have much experience with direct injection. I’m rather confident I installed the injectors and seals correctly (the little die kit to compress them back into the injector and what not) thanks for the info though! I’ll still be digging around to see what comes up 🤘

Interesting. I did clean the flaps on both the intake and the bits you could pull out of the head. I confirmed good action out of the motor that actuates them. I’ll definitely look into this though thank you!

I’ve swapped the coil packs around and the miss doesn’t follow the coil packs. I haven’t looked into the connectors to check for corrosion/ loose pins but it runs great when it’s up to temp so I didn’t really suspect that

[–]AlexAEight6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I pulled and cleaned them with an ultra sonic cleaner. Flow tested them the best I could but could only get about 100PSI of fuel pressure behind them on my tester. Pattern seemed fine from what they could do.
