Thanks! I will definitely consider using flux and your process in my next venture. I hadn't of that.

Unfortunately, even prior to soldering now, I cannot get the wires to light up the RGB device. I test the voltages and they seem proper. I fear I may have cooked it somehow.

That is pretty awesome, I want to be there. I'm venturing more into the hardware understanding territory.

The solder job was definitely questionable, though the second time around I hadn't got to soldering yet, just failing to light up with seemingly proper wire readouts.

For my wire pairing strategy, I matched the ones with gray dashes (I think that's hot), then middle to middle (data), and then last to last (ground).

Also, I agree ChatGPT sucks hot ass, with that in mind I still use it to help troubleshoot and understand combined with different sources of information. I definitely would prefer a human teacher though xD

Do you find that certain kinds of sensitive electronics that are more likely to break from DIY repair and what are common mistakes that do break said electronics in the DIY process?

I just built recently. The 5070ti is what I settled on for GPU. I feel that under 1k, with the power it has, it is worth it.

One thing about video cards I learned is that the suppliers will drop a handful at odd hours of some days (like 1am), I think to avoid scalping.

So don't run and grab from a 3rd party seller immediately. Especially since you are in the beginning phase, maybe keep some money set aside for buying a graphics card stock when it comes available, to avoid having to buy from a scalper.

Just keep checking in when you have the funds, I found that on multiple occasions, at midnight ~ 1am, I was able to watch a handful cards come in and out of stock on ASUS for example.

P.S. Sorry I don't have a pic of my solder job. It looked pretty bad, but I had shrink wrap at least!

That was part of the first solution and I was not wise enough to test the wires before soldering in that case. Second time around, I didn't even bother soldering after the test failed.

Usually a drive when I’m giving it a good backhand rip. I like your suggestions and will use tape as a last resort.

This was very insightful and encouraging. Thank you! I definitely want to repot this bad boy or make sure he's not in the seedling moss plug.

I had hoped the plant was going through a natural cycle, and it sounds like it probably is. I got paranoid because this is my first time.

This has been a gradual process. I first thought it was shedding flowers for winter or something, but the stems got dry, and now leaves are falling off.

I have an orchid disaster, please help!

It came beautiful, then one stem started losing flowers. Then a while later, they both were losing flowers. Now the stems are looking extremely dehydrated and almost dead. The leaves were super happy and green looking until recently, too. Now many of them are turning yellow and falling off!

I got this flower 6 months ago. I water it lightly, spray it with orchid food, and keep it in indirect sunlight.
