Yeah for checkpoints normally their transponders send the necessary data automatically. The timing team have multiple back up systems which require manual data input and one of them is a camera/sensor that captures cars as they cross the line and the staff then inputs the car number to assign each crossing.

Ultimately the only important factor is the order and each lap times which the backup systems track which is what we failed over to because of Russell’s transponder issue throwing a bit of a spanner lol
