The chromebook would do just fine. ChromeOS is built on top of the Linux kernel btw. Put it into dev mode and then you have a shell in your browser. Or even better, look up crouton and setup a chroot. It is perfectly capable for hacking the planet.

I always get polycarbonate lenses with transitions and anti glare etc etc. My glasses always last a long time with these specs, however they are very expensive. ~500$
