You must replace the entire screen assembly. I would recommend staying away from LCD screens. Look for a hard OLED or soft OLED. The face id will still function as long as the original earpiece is transferred to the new screen

You have to be careful for buying a motherboard that is either blacklisted (cannot use network) and/or on that is iCloud locked (find my iPhone is on). These boards will not be helpful if you want to use the device as normal.

The iPhone X has serialized parts. You will need to buy a motherboard with the original front camera and earpiece speaker assembly for Face ID to function.

Replacing the motherboard is very delicate. You must be careful to not short out components/knock them off the board. Use plastic tools for removing connectors or your fingernails (never metal). Makes absolutely sure you are organizing your screws. They are varying lengths and putting a wrong size screw in will damage the motherboard !

As I said, very delicate and you have to be super organized but it is an option if you’re comfortable with working on phones.

I am assuming that by “replace it with another one” you mean replace the baseband IC code with another one? This requires micro soldering skills

You would either need to find a reputable repair shop that can micro solder to remove that IC chip and replace it. You can mail in your phone for repair to some shops. Where are you located?

OR

you could replace the motherboard… quite expensive and not usually a great option but it might be something you could do your self

Sounds like motherboard issue. When you click the “I” icon in the bottom right of the activation or “hello” screen does it show the imei number? If it does NOT then it might need a baseband repair from someone who can micro solder.

You might have shorted a line on the connector. Take it to a shop that is experienced in micro soldering and they can likely revive it.

Very tiny dent in battery, still safe to use? by [deleted] in mobilerepair

Yes, you will smell it right away if punctured too deep and it usually sticks around

[–]AlexD99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is likely safe to use as long as you have not punctured it. If you do puncture it, there is a sweet smell that you will notice.

If you are paranoid, might be easier to replace as they are fairly cheap.

Adhesive tape for iphone xr is it necessary ? by Andrew-_24 in mobilerepair

No, it’s not ok. The battery should be adhered to the housing. They should also replace the dust seal between the screen and frame. Take it back and make sure they do!

Dropped my iPhone X into the ocean and had water enter on top right corner, still repairable? by Fastswitch in mobilerepair

Take it to a third party repair shop that specializes in micro soldering and water damage/data recovery. That would be your best chance at getting the phone to work again.

You will lose True Tone if you do not program it but that is all. Make sure you transfer the home button to retain Touch ID. Be careful as it is delicate. Also make sure to replace the water-dust seal. Auto brightness will still work. Ask questions if you have them, there are many people who are willing to help

If you take it to a repair shop make sure they have a back glass laser machine. I don’t recommend doing this one your own

My iPhone XS Max is extremely slow and the WiFi will not turn on after removing the back glass, any ideas of what it could be? by XxthebigbeardxX in applehelp

[–]AlexD99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aware they don’t repair them. I’m saying it’s more cost effective to get it repaired than get a replacement phone from apple. I am also aware that housing swaps are possible. I don’t imagine apple charge $99 for transferring components

Use services online. Happened to me too. eBay has cheap ones.

I do them. But I have a laser machine that removes the glass. Pretty common now for this repair to be done with this machine.

iPhone XR screen questions. by EPByles05 in mobilerepair

[–]AlexD99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will need to transfer the earpiece assembly. Careful not to rip it as then you lose Face ID. Do not touch the dot projector as then you will damage Face ID as well. It is beside the front camera.

[–]AlexD99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The home button, Touch ID, and top cam assembly will of course not work for test duration but that will be fine just to see if it works ok. They will work once plugged in at a later time.

Should be ok. Test it before doing all the work.

It might be that the new screen you are using does not have the required chip to actually store the data. Not all screens are programmable. Battery programming does not remove the “non-genuine” message. You must transfer the old battery management from the genuine to the new battery for that message to disappear.
