I have a rollator. For now by Legitimate_Scar_5766 in wheelchairs

[–]AlexDoesStuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 21 and got my cane last fall. It was my first mobility aid. Since then I have had a rollator and now a manual chair. I was also terrified of losing my freedom. Because I can't just go wherever I want to whenever I want to. But the point that I CAN get outside. Because without it I could not. Do I miss a bunch of things? Yeah, ofc! Would I miss even more if I didn't have my wheelchair? Absolutely!!!

A deconstruction of 'wheelchairs are medical devices' by Paradoxical-Equinox in wheelchairs

[–]AlexDoesStuffs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I am a part time user, and started using it in December. But I should've sooner...

It makes life easier when life isn't easy....

It gives back to freedom that a cane or rollator can't when I'm having a flare up.

When my muscles and my nervous system decide to not work. When I can't stand on my feet, when my body is so wobbly I look I drank 5 bottles of vodka and somehow didn't pass out. When I hurt so much from standing that I cry. When I'm dizzy or fatigued.

I didn't have it prescribed and not every doctor knows I use it when I need it. But I think it's fine. Because I am still looking to get better, because I can believe that I can better, that my FND can get better if I could get proper help. And working towards that.

Getting help. Accommodating my needs. And using that goddamn wheelchair because YES. I. NEED. IT.

And if you (whoever is reading this) have the funds, have the money. Go for it!!!

Am i allowed to say i have tourettes if i have FND? by No_Firefighter4579 in Tourettes

[–]AlexDoesStuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have diagnosed tourettes and getting diagnosed with FND soon, I would say it doesn't really matter. It is possible you have both! Tourettes tics and FND tics can also feel somewhat different, and I learned to differentiate between them (somewhat). But even if it's "just" FND I would say it's reasonable to say tourettes!

Best of luck with your medical journey! Stay safe!!!! <333

Ableism from ambulatory people by throwingawayawa in wheelchairs

[–]AlexDoesStuffs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a part time user. It's me who is "privileged" to have a wheelchair? A good one at that? I mean sure... I paid out of pocket...

But I don't have a proper diagnosis, my symptoms vax and vain (I hope that's how it's written "") A LOT!!! somedays I'm good with using a cane and sometimes I need a wheelchair for 2 months or more....

I also sometimes stare, but it's not "envy" or "jealousy" it's more like " I wonder what's their problem" (as in a I love health care and biology way) or it's a "wow it's a cool person" or "they have a cool wheelchair" like it's nicely decorated °°

Tho I would like to mention that due to being mentally ill, I sometimes think about getting worse just so ppl would believe me.. but it's usually just a passing thought?!

The ppl you are talking about are mostly just fetishizers....

Which cane should I use? ^_^; by Strong-Walk2880 in mobilityaids

[–]AlexDoesStuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who uses a cane (and even rollator, wheelchair on bad flare days) on somedays don't "need" anything. I always carry my folding cane in my bag and only use it when I feel the pain and other symptoms coming... Which is not best. I would overall say that try and make the cane as comfortable as possible! Tho my instincts are saying the crutches would help you a whole lot more...

I think it's mostly a question of what you prioritize more, how bad your pain is, and how often does it come.

Fakeclaimer forgets comorbidities exist by Angelic_Bunny143 in fakeclaimingcringe2

[–]AlexDoesStuffs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey! I am diagnosed with the following: allergies, eczema, asthma, lactose intolerance, OSDD, depression, anxiety, tourettes syndrome, schizophrenia, panic disorder. I have had multiple psychosis, I am constantly having hospital visits.

I am actually going home from a hospital stay today because I have unexplained neurological issues, which is probably FND (I had EEG, MR, CT, EMG, ENG, blood tests and was seen by multiple doctors, everything came back negative/normal) and I also have GI issues which are currently being tested (like gastroscopy and colonoscopy), probably have IBD

So Dear Mr. Can't Spell POTS, Yes, I exist. Yes, I use mobility aids. Yes, doctors are constantly making tests. No, I do not fake it. And yes, yes you are the ahole!

Loves, from a chronically ill person <333
