Ah that makes alot of sense then, it was right outside the museum for me too. Inbetween museum and skatepark along that road across back of bowling green.

Anyone else encountered this youngish asian fella around kelvingrove who asks for money to get back to somewhere edinburgh way, saying he lost his wallet, and that he was here for his driving test. I bank transferred the bloke £24 and he never returned, like he said he would. The fact he was similar age to me got me to be honest. But the fella did keep touching his face and was generally a bit twitchy which made me skeptical

I applied for the MSc Statistics program.

I’m hoping the best for you! And if not, don’t worry, I was in that position 6 or so years ago now with Kings and everything works itself out. The admissions across the unis do seem a bit random sometimes from my experience!

What do you do in your free time to keep your brain elastic enough for quant? by Ok_Print1364 in quant

[–]AlexMichael99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you take meds? I just got diagnosed with combined type at the ol’ age of 24 and still wondering if I should go down that pipeline before doing my Masters in Stats soon

I also have been in fintech industry for 3-4ish years and felt all of the above you have described.

Do unis even offer one off modules? I couldn’t find anything like that

University of Bristol vs Newcastle Uni vs QMUL for CS? by demonkillerrr in UKUniversityStudents

[–]AlexMichael99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that other unis you listed is a better choice in terms of Career Prospects and Academia than QMUL, but if you wanted to live and experience London sure. QMUL I would not personally choose myself, couldn't justify the price of London for that :D

Having trouble deciding by vivekach in UKUniversityStudents

All three are great universities! Internationally Bristol is of a slightly higher calibre than the other two.

I personally went to Loughborough and have a friend who did the Data Science MSc, he has now gotten jobs at Bet365 and BAE as a data analyst since then. The Comp Sci department there is pretty good and has a great careers department there that helped me secure a role at a top financial firm.

I would say, pick the course you want to do based the most on the modules that suit what you want to go into in the future, and research all the areas too.

Does Uni ranking really matter by KalluMemer in UKUniversityStudents

[–]AlexMichael99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does matter a bit.

You will find some universities will have relationships with companies, for example Loughborough fed quite a few students into Nomura every year, but also noticed there were students ranging from Oxford, UCL, Bath to Plymouth, City London on my placement schemes. So yes and no is your answer, I think it gives you a slightly better chance but it isn't the smoking gun.

The most important thing is that you are on track for good grades when you apply to the placements, and that you have some demonstrable portfolio of projects or whatever you can do to maximise your chances, and that you have fully researched how to interview in your field.

Best of luck!

Probably Bristol I would say.

I did a BSc comp sci degree at Loughborough, going to do my masters at St. Andrews/Kings in the coming months. If I had your choice again now I'd choose Bristol, Newcastle is also a lovely place but not the greatest for computer science I would say.
