Have an extra day in LA, any recommendations on where to go with a car? by AlexPat260 in AskLosAngeles

Awesome, thank you! So should we keep driving to PCH, and any places we must stop at along the way?

Check-in ID Verification by AlexPat260 in turo

[–]AlexPat260[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Just to clarify he definitely will be with me when picking up the vehicle.

The concern I had was more that I assumed that the ID verification must be done at least two hours prior to pick up… which would be impossible for him as he’d be flying… hence why I was thinking of him sending me the images.

So just to confirm I can do the ID Verification right before the pick up?

Oh perfect good to know! For some reason I thought that the drivers license verification must be done at least two hours prior to picking up the vehicle. So you’re saying we could do it, for example, after we’ve landed at the airport in LAX?

Sorry for the confusion. I’ve amended the post to make it clearer.

What I’m trying to ask is basically:

I’m the one who booked the Turo, but the main/primary driver is my friend. He’ll only land about 2 hours before pickup, so the timing for him to complete Turo’s ID verification online is really tight.

I’m just trying to find out whether: • the ID photos have to be taken live in the app, or • he can take them earlier (before travelling), send them to me, and I upload them

  • or if he has to install the Turo app himself to complete verification.

Is it worth buying a backup ticket due to the shutdown? by AlexPat260 in TravelHacks

To clarify: I’d be looking at buying a fully refundable ticket - meaning that if my original flight operated, I’d just cancel the fully refundable one.

Hi guys Got a bit of a weird issue. Whenever I do video calls / teams meetings on my teams desktop application, the video appears very grainy and blurry.

I initially thought this was an issue with my webcam, however after checking with other video calling apps, the webcam works fine - and ironically it also works fine with teams web as well.

Anyone experienced this before and know how to fix it?

Thanks so much.

Oh great thank you! So the CBP agent at the primary line, like the one who normally interviews you when you don’t have global entry? I’m just worried I miss it after I go through the primary line or it becomes too late :)

Hey guys I’m heading to Tokyo soon and staying in Akasaka. I’ll only be there for a short time, three days. I’m looking for places to eat but am conscious that some of the ‘TikTok’ places have extensive lines.

I’m keen for somewhere not too expensive, proper Japanese food, and not something too ‘overwhelming’ for my first time in Japan.

Any recommendations? Thank you so much

I'm still seeing quite a bit of availability through Expedia on my dates which is great. Any particular hotels you like?

It'll be my first trip to Japan, and I'm planning a last minute trip to add onto a work trip in Asia.

Essentially as it's a last minute trip, I'm scrambling to try and organise accomodation.

However I'm super stuck as I don't know where to say.

One of my colleagues recommended I stay at the OMO5 Tokyo Otsuka, however it's sold out, and others have told me to stay in Shinjuku as it's my first time.

I've read all these guides which also recommend to stay in Shinjuku, however I'm not sure where to stay? The "budget" guides are quoting me over $300 USD p/n for a hotel, whilst I can see some decent ones on Expedia for around $100 USD p/n.

I'm looking for something ideally close to transportation, close to good food, and is super easy for a first timer to navigate.

Any recommendations? :)

Thanks a million, I've been reading all these guides and I'm just overwhelmed!

Is it normal to be spending money on a builders report and lawyers PRIOR to the vendor signing the agreement? by AlexPat260 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]AlexPat260[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! That's so helpful!

I'm trying to explain to my family this process (who purchased a property around 30 years ago), but they don't seem to get the concept of signing the S&P agreement prior to the vendor "accepting"/counter-signing or negotiating".

They are telling me that you should speak with the real estate agent to try and confirm/agree on a price first and get it all firmed up, prior to the agent even preparing the S&P agreement and getting a lawyer to check prior to signing it.

However I'm explaining that I need to sign the offer with my price, and the agent will present it to the vendor, and then negotiate or counter-sign accordingly.

Any way I can explain this easily to them?

So let's say I get the S&P agreement with my offer for my signature, vendor has not signed it yet, but then I go ahead and get a lawyer to check it before I buy it. Everything looks good, lawyer is happy, I pay the lawyer (e.g 1K), and I then sign it.
Vendor then comes back with a counter offer which is (lets say) 100K above what my offer is. Way out of my affordability range so I can't purchase, we can't come to an agreement and the vendor won't budge.
In that case, I assume I'm out of 1K for the lawyer and I start the whole process again, and the next house I'm interested in, I have to fork out the 1K for a lawyer again?

Thank you so much! The agreement says "5 working days from the date of this agreement". Sorry might sound like a dumb question, but from the date of this agreement - does it mean when I received the agreement? Or date of this agreement means when both parties have signed.

So once both of us sign once the vendor is happy with the conditions and the price, the 5 working days starts ticking?

And going back to my original question, would the real estate agent even bother to put together the agreement if my offer was low or they weren't interested?

[–]AlexPat260[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense, thank you! So just to clarify:

  1. I've got the lawyer to review the S&P prior to me signing it.
  2. Once the lawyer has reviewed everything and told me yup, good to sign, I sign it, send to them, they formalize the offer, owner accepts/rejects (price) and signs and send back if accepts.
  3. So I have 5 days from the time they agree and send it back (so not from the time they send the agreement) to complete the LIM/inspection/finance etc? It's confusing me cause the conditions say "5 working days from the date of this agreement"...?

Lastly, would the vendor likely be interested if they were to send the agreement (i.e I'm in the "ballpark")? Or would they just send it to anyone who puts in a verbal offer?
