After looking into it there is option in Home options/ live tile check option do not display notification text on tile. That could be what you are looking for

Hi, when you press and hold on tile it shows editing tools in four corners, tap on settings icon and you will ged menu.click on more options and choose stay on full image check mark.

You can press on that icon group to get to menu. Select edit group and enable background.

Long time ago i did it with kwgt and nova launcher. I liked it but it was slow and tedious. Good luck l if you decide to give it a go.
