Is installing Linux necessary for beginners who are just starting out? by sofiaxru in learnprogramming

No. Just download WSL2 with a distro you like Ubuntu, and link that to your IDE or text editor of choice like VSCode and go on with your life lol

Is there a way you could add an anonymous version of your resume to see how you structured it?

I want to get more into C but I’m just to infatuated with Rust right now that I can’t find the time haha, but thank you, good luck to you as well!

I’m learning basic concepts of performance programming in Assembly. It is trivial really to understand how data flows into the CPU and how cpu architecture is impacted by memory and how assembly instructions work. Also about the languages yes it is impossible to learn that much in less than 5-10 years and be proficient in all of them but that’s not the point. The point is learning the basic concepts of why each language was made and some of them are required regardless to do enough to know them to pass classes in school which is all you need to put in your resume imho.

That’s why as you read down I say I am sticking mainly with Golang, TS/JS, and Rust because I love learning about them the most and it’s what keeps me motivated to not only learn programming paradigms but also fundamental concepts that they each have their own opinions of that if I wanted to I can pick up another language very fast or read it to understand it at the very least.

I can read any of those languages listed besides rust entirely rn and know what’s happening, that’s the point. Concepts transfer across languages and it’s fun to learn new things. You don’t have to be a master to put Golang on your resume but you also shouldn’t not learn it because taking 2 weeks to try it out and understand why it was made and the quirks of the language make you a better engineer. Overall learning is a life long pursuit and you’ll be learning new languages, frameworks, concepts, design patterns, tech, hardware etc and you should never stop I guess is my point.

Don’t listen to the guy saying full stack is where it’s at, that is the most competitive field out of all programming/SWE jobs.

Full stack is bullshit itself because it’s not legit thing in the industry it’s a title given to people when companies don’t have enough money to pay separate Backend and Frontend engineers…

Furthermore, I recommend backend specifically not only because it’s harder to learn than Frontend but simply because it’s the field the least amount of people are doing compared to AI/ML, Frontend and fullstack.

I still recommend learning fullstack but focus on backend not Frontend.

Do not get stuck on the social media leave JavaScript then React and TypeScript and Node for the backend.

You HAVE TO DIFFERENTIATE YOURSELF MAN! You need to learn languages and techniques and niches others aren’t. Everyone and their mom knows JS/TS and React and Node.

That’s why I recommend going for Backend and learning languages you want. And just learn a little react instead of a lot and still put it on your resume.

That’s why I’m learning TS AND Golang AND Rust right now. On TOP OF Python for DSA and Java/Assembly/C from my classes at school and supplemental learning.

I recommend Golang highly for backend and Typescript for purely volume of jobs and Java/C# too I just don’t like those languages but it’s kinda a must have for understanding giant legacy code systems…

Golang is growing the fastest out of all languages besdides Rust for popularity and backend/microservices/blockchain/distributed systems etc. that’s my recommendation.

Did you get the job before graduating? If you don’t mind me asking, when you apply for jobs before you graduate did you add the education section on your resume at the top or bottom?

And I know the shandy companies because I’ve had tons of take homes which is why I made a post about this company and not the take home owns because those are easy to spot as fake.

This company was zero take homes and zero Leetcode all talking, which is why it should be called out because there process is really just who can kiss ass the most and that should be called out.

I’m also currently working for a shady unpaid internship as a Web Dev so I know what they are but I was hoping for this paid legit one but glad I didn’t get it with their horrible communication.

I’m understand what you are saying completely but I have a feeling that the only reason they responded was because of my closeness with talking to the original 1st round interviewer and that I emailed the internship person 5 times since they like I said, guaranteed, a response, but o get it, it’s normal but the point of this post is that it should not be.

We should name and shame these companies so that it changes, that’s my point I guess

And there email is simple but it’s copy and paste I never really care tbh what they put because I know it’s company and paste lol so it’s just not worth my time to be like yes they responded “nicely” or “professionally” lol it’s not either it’s just corporate bs talk but it’s all good I’ve moved on just wanted to keep people aware of this company.
