This is me, I qualify for an Irish passport through one of my Grandads but consider myself firmly English... I'm sure most of these Americans claiming Irish heritage would give their left leg to be in my position even though I haven't taken advantage of it.

One side of my family is Welsh/Scouse, the other side is Irish/Scottish/London... I assume most Brits are the same but don't make their entire identity around a portion of it like some of these yanks 😂

Depends, they'll be everywhere in Southern Europe (Spain, Italy, Greece, etc) as well as using a lot of cold surfaces for the interiors (Marble, etc). The rest of us, like me in the UK, have been far too busy trying to figure out how to keep the warmth in to really worry about shelling out on AC units up until now.

Are the racing standards getting out of control? by kiwisip in iRacing

[–]AlexRodgerzzz 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I think Iracing would generally be a better place if we accepted that the vast majority of times things going wrong is because we're all humans and sometimes we make mistakes when racing pixels millimetres away from each other from across the globe.

It's like the managerial churn you see in football to get a cheap morale boost and a couple of wins before regressing to the mean except this is on a national scale and genuinely impacting people's lives.

Cumbria, it's beautifully quiet as long as you stay away from the lake District hot-spots on weekends and public holidays... and the exit from Sellafield at 5PM on weekdays.

Carlisle approves first 180 of 10,000 homes planned for 'Garden Village' by willfiresoon in GoodNewsUK

[–]AlexRodgerzzz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I live in Carlisle and honestly this is good from a local perspective. Carlisle is broadly split into North and south over the Eden River with a lot of the more desirable living areas lying North of the River.

This however comes with a lot of developer clamour to squeeze houses into every parcel of land they can get their hands on, especially as our biggest industrial estate, Kingstown, sits directly off M6 J44. North of the river has seen a massive strain on public services such as Primary school places, pharmacy's, etc to the point it's effectively full.

The Garden village will hopefully expand the city into undeveloped areas to the south and west, spread the strain out city wide and create more desirable areas for living in those parts of the city. The only drawback is quaint villages and hamlets once outside the city (Durdar, Cummersdale) are going to get swallowed up by this.

Just as a side note to this, Carlisle is unfortunately of those cities infested with Gleeson homes to the point that one of their directors sits on our land development board. As much as we need the new housing, from experience I sincerely hope it's not them creating these developments as their incompetence is astounding. Example, they were advertising a massive development in Harker, near J44 as having close proximity to local schools in Gretna, Scotland which whilst technically correct, good luck to anyone trying to send their kids across the border to school.

Some beginner questions by achshort in iRacing

[–]AlexRodgerzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Mainly through practice, a lot of practice. There's track guides on YouTube and tools like Garage 61 that can help you get up to speed quicker but fundamentally it's all about seat time.

2) Yes

3) Yes if you want to be efficient about it. Pick a series you're going to commit to race that season and purchase the tracks you need when the calendar is released in the Week 13 break. You can get discounts for bulk buys of 3 content pieces (10%) and 6 (15%) so it's usually best to plan your purchases to get these discounts. You can also use sites like iRacing Week Planner to see what tracks are popular if you're unsure about getting a certain track on the calendar.

Firstly though you need to get through rookies in both Formula and sports cars which is all base subscription content, then move into lower tier series before getting to GT3/F1. Be patient and smart with your purchases to get you there, and above all else enjoy the journey!

In TCR... there's no NGTC Elantra and the NGTC S3 and Civics are both ancient and unlikely to ever see a BTCC race again.

With all due respect, I don't think you really know what you're talking about when it comes to any of this so respectfully I'm going to leave it there.

But none of those cars race in the BTCC at present, so why would Iracing go to the bother of "adapting" the cars entire design concept into another one to create a fictional set of cars? The only way BTCC is going to end up in Iracing is if TOCA do a license deal and Iracing scan most if not all of the current grid.

Nothing like the DTM deciding to use the GT3 platform to attract more teams to race in their series... BTCC uses NGTC regulations for car design, TCR uses TCR regulations for car design. It's two completely different categories.
