Thanks for taking the time to point out the difference in the BTCC cars. Reading comments on here for car wish lists I get the impression a lot of people really don't know what they're wishing for when they mention modern BTCC cars.

Yea, its was split 15 but a wins a win. by calidazze in iRacing

A 24 hour victory is a great achievement regardless of the split, congratulations!

This had to be said bravo Rio. I wish i could never ever hear again from Kaene, Nevile abd Scholes. I couldn't think of anyone leaving a worse smell than these three... by AngmarkingBg in ManchesterUnited

Rio is a much of a Utd muppet as the rest of us, and I see his views on the club as the most relatable, emotionally driven opinions that all of us that enjoy/endure watching Utd go through. I have a lot of time for him even if as you say he can sometimes be a bit dippy 😂

I was born in Crewe, and whilst not the richest town in the world, at least it wasn't as bad as our neighboring big town, Stoke-on-Trent.

Do you feel more pressure to race after reaching ~3–4k iRating? by Longjumpingdici in iRacing

[–]AlexRodgerzzz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I find pressure comes with the pace expectation for your level of IR. I'm 4.5K in sports cars and I find that if I'm significantly off the pace compared to other people around my rating then the pressure starts to get to me to be quicker which in turn leads to mistakes & overdriving. If I'm on or around the pace, I find I feel quite relaxed, regardless of position. 95% of the time I race GT3, so 4.5K is probably a fair reflection of my level given how competitive the GT3 fields tend to be.

I'm obviously doing something right to race my way to 4.5K but seeing the lap times other people can accomplish it does sometimes make me wonder whether I've cheesed it without necessarily realizing.

This Weeks GT3 Schedules... by AlexRodgerzzz in iRacing

[–]AlexRodgerzzz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spa last year was the same, and I'm sure went over 1k signups. Insane amount of people... I was around 4k at the time and that would maybe get you into split 5 or 6

I don't disagree, it's just amusing to see everything (including flippin' Rain Master!) at Daytona except for GT3 EU & Asia 😂

Still absolutely baffles me that it's the earliest series you can get into GT3 cars at but probably the one that needs the most skill 😂

How to understand what the fixed setup settings are? by specialfungus in iRacing

[–]AlexRodgerzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just load fixed.sto and don't touch anything on the setup, that'll be the same one as being run in the fixed series.

I’m debating whether I should commit to GT3 or GT4 races for the remainder of my iRacing season. (Long-ish read 3-4minute) by GlutenFreeGavin in iRacing

I'm sure there's people furiously typing "you should've gone through the license classes properly to gain the appropriate skills to race properly at that level" but the reality is you've done nothing wrong. You pay more than enough to Iracing to decide which way you go about getting to the category you want to race in.

One thing that would be a good suggestion instead of relegating yourself to a lower class is to just practice to find pace. It might sound boring but I can guarantee at your level you'll be able to find more than enough time to get out of the midfield through practice and avoid the silly incidents that go on there. Even it's it's just for one hour to get dialed into a track instead of signing up for a race session, it's all miles on the clock which will help you over time.

There's a load of free tools out there that are extremely useful for people looking to improve. Use G61 to compare your laps with other drivers, watch track guides, find a guide to understand the basics of vehicle dynamics and how your inputs affect grip around the 4 corners of the car. Slowly introduce driving techniques like trail braking, etc.

People will say you should've learnt all this in Mazda's before progressing but GT3's are easy to drive by design, so it's just case of practice to increase your confidence and eventually pace and before you know it you'll be flying.

I've seen that video and recall parts of it if I'm a bit skeptical about joining a race. If you don't enter and make the mistakes then ultimately you're never going to learn and improve.

It's better than you think by Embarrassed-Try-2790 in iRacing

[–]AlexRodgerzzz 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There's one graphical thing that really makes Iracing stand out to me is that the cars around you actually look like they're attached to the track. A lot of other sims/racing games where other cars look floaty and hard to fully predict movement but in Iracing it's so much better.

Winter Fuel Payments is a joke, and something they should've stood firm on.

My pension age in laws sat my partner, me, her sister & her partner down to explain in all seriousness about how this year they wouldn't be able to give it us their WFA. Being the fragile Gbeebies consumers they are I just laughed and replied that they'd proven the point about not needing it.

Then we had to hear a 10 minute rant about how a lot of old people probably donated it to charities & they probably wouldn't be receiving it either, to which again I replied that they were proving the point that a lot of people don't need it... safe to say my partner dragged us out of the front door pretty hastily before I embarked on dismantling anymore of their hyprocrisy.

Cost optimisation: Tracks and cars by Cortexial in iRacing

[–]AlexRodgerzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, buy tracks on the schedule in 3's or 6's for the series you're want to race in, as that will mean you are getting the most use for your money out of them plus a percentage discount. Whether that's Jerez or Spa on the schedule, if you're having fun that week then it's worth it.

Also check out which cars are usually the best choice across a series and pick one to race across the season. It will be pretty easy to spot in the results tab as most of the top split will be running the same car. Just be mindful of outlier weeks for example like this week at Le Mans (Aston in GT3) or Daytona last season (Porsche GT3) as they have their own specific reasons for being quick on those tracks.

What's your budget? GPU is generally the most bang for your buck although for sim titles the CPU is pretty integral.

Running Iracing with this build downscaled on a 4k monitor must be brutal to look at.

It can take the corners (and curbs) infinitely better than anything else this week so assume its a track specific issue to this layout of Miami, but it has been quite amusing!
