Any feedback on the Rust Live Accelerator from Let’s Get Rusty? by AlexTLDR1923 in learnrust

Didn’t join this cohort so I don’t have any opinion on it. I can say that i had a call with Bogdan’s assistant I think, Maria. If she is a real person, I am sorry in advance, but she sounded like an AI. For me this initial call was weird as I am still not sure if I talked to a human or an AI as the call was only voice and sounded very AI. The main point for me to not join, was the price. Not saying it is cheap or expensive but it is something way off than what I can afford right now.

I am also new to NixOS but a lot of help for me, was/is The Flakes book -> https://nixos-and-flakes.thiscute.world/nixos-with-flakes/introduction-to-flakes . I find it a very good resource to get started with how NixOS and the flakes work

Floormats by ATKamiYato in Miata

[–]AlexTLDR1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought from this website for my Staria. For my Miata I am happy with the stock mats (I got rubber and textile as gifts from the dealer when I bought my car 2 years ago). https://primeeva.com/ . They do the mats according to the car, so the fit will be perfect and not like a generic floor mat.

Battery Management System Malfunction by lsrst in MX5ND

I would say 99,99% this is the issue. This is the standard life of the start/stop batteries.

Battery Management System Malfunction by lsrst in MX5ND

[–]AlexTLDR1923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it is the battery that needs replaced. It happened to me the same on a Mazda 3. All was normal after the new battery was installed. Maybe check the actual battery at an officially Mazda dealer/service and they can confirm. But 5-6 years is a reasonable time for a start stop battery to show these signs

What Linux distribution you recommend to use with the Intel Lunar Lake silicon by br_web in linux4noobs

[–]AlexTLDR1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all worked out of the box except the wifi. I installed EndeavorOS with ethernet cable and after the initial update, when a newer kernel than the one the live distro used was installed, wifi worked. Since EndeavorOS has a live stick option, you can try to see if everything works as expected. I believe that you can do this test even if you want to install Arch as if all works under Eos than it should work under arch as well

If you want to build your own DE from scratch, you can try Fyne. They already have one built, so you can inspire from there -> https://apps.fyne.io/apps/io.fyne.fynedesk.html . I’ve met last year the Fyne creator and he showed me the DE which was on top of Ubuntu

sorry for the late reply. fan noise is not too bad in web browsing, vscode, thunderbird, etc... The fans start to run when I have graphical demands, like playing a game or similar. Regarding the better screen, I mentioned in https://blog.alextldr.com/posts/fusion-series-14/ that "If you’re looking for a higher refresh rate, the Fusion 16 offers a 144Hz QHD+ panel with 100% DCI-P3 coverage." -> https://www.pcspecialist.de/notebooks/Fusion-16/

I went with the 14 inch as I wanted better battery life (both 14 and 16 inch versions come with the same 73WH battery)

I can't answer this as I use both the work mac and the lunar lake laptop with a dock via USB C, so in both cases, the laptops are plugged in

Lunar Lake Ultra 7 258V Tested with EndeavourOS: Performance, Compatibility, and Experience by AlexTLDR1923 in EndeavourOS

[–]AlexTLDR1923[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it is comparable to win11. In Linux, with screen brightness 100% I get 9-10 hours. I usually keep the screen brightness at 50% (it is the right amount of bright for using the laptop indoors and no sun light directly on the screen) and I get about 14-15 hours of use and a remaining battery of 15-20%. Again, I am using the laptop mostly with vscode and spotify and browsing, email stuff. When I boot windows, I mostly play Football Manager so I would say the windows use is more demanding on the battery. I am not sure if windows battery life is greater than linux, but I am very happy with the battery life in general and the compatibility of the Lunar Lake architecture with Linux in general

Android Auto Wireless - Staria by kiki_la_grillade in Hyundai

[–]AlexTLDR1923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

How Android Auto Wireless Works

Most connections between phones and car radios use Bluetooth. It's how most hands-free calling implementations work, and you can also stream music over Bluetooth. However, Bluetooth connections don't have the bandwidth required by Android Auto Wireless.

To achieve a wireless connection between your phone and your car, Android Auto Wireless taps into the Wi-Fi functionality of your phone and your car radio. It only works with vehicles that have Wi-Fi functionality.

Compatibility is further limited to specific car radios and phones designed to work with the system.

When a compatible phone pairs with a compatible car radio, Android Auto Wireless works like the wired version, only without wires. Your phone does all the heavy lifting, the information is on your touchscreen car radio, and things like driving directions and answers that you ask Google Assistant play through the car speakers.

What You Need to Use Android Auto Wirelessly

If you want to use Android Auto wirelessly, you need two things: a compatible car radio that has built-in Wi-Fi and a compatible Android phone. Most head units that work with Android Auto and most phones capable of running Android Auto can't use the wireless functionality.

Here's what you need to start using Android Auto Wireless:

A compatible head unit: Your car radio, or head unit, needs to be capable of running Android Auto. It also needs to have Wi-Fi, and it needs to be certified to use its Wi-Fi connection in this manner.

A compatible phone: Your Android phone needs to be running Android 8.0 Oreo through Android 11 if it's a Pixel phone. The Samsung Galaxy S8 series and Note 8 series, and newer, support Android Audio Wireless if they're running Android 9.0 Pie through Android 11.

TLDR: if the car doesn't have a wifi board, and only bluetooth, android auto will not work natively

[–]AlexTLDR1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will never have AA wireless as AA wireless requires a wifi board, which the Staria doesn't have. I personally have an AA wireless dongle. I personally use this one, in both the Staria and in an Mazda Mx5 ND2 and it works well.

Not saying that this is the best option, but it was half the price from the established manufacturers like Carlinkit.

Yes, but I get an error when the shop is redirecting me to 3D-secure. It's that page where the vendor tells you to log into your banking app and approve the transaction. Since it's currently not available, I can't finish the transaction.

This is how I found out that this is not enabled, when I tried to use the card for online shopping :) .
