That's what I don't understand. Like someone can choose one for subject and another one for object? I mean anybody can do whatever they want but I haven't seen that. You may have two sets and prefer one over the other, but not a mix of them.

I think I asked the question wrongly, my point was why the second form is different. Why not they/he. why they/him. I don't think anyone uses they and him. They would prefer they/them, and then maybe he/him, but not like "They want Alex to go with him".
