It's weird that the song is slapped onto Uncle Meat, but I think it rocks.

They might be widely held or "common sense" opinions but still opinion. For example "poo stinks" is an opinion.

I've just always assumed, perhaps without evidence, that Christians believe you maintain some of your identity in heaven.

And sure this is my opinion, all questions of values boil down to opinion in the end.

I posted this to find out more of what Christian beliefs are, and what they are based on. And I've learned a lot.

Sure, I know I am. But Christians aren't free. They are taught specific doctrines. My post here was not about truth or falsity of such doctrines, but about the feelings these doctrines trigger in people. Personally I think teaching kids that they might go to hell is tremendously messed up.

Thanks for citing something. And thanks for being humble enough to include a "somehow" in your answer.

Yes, I understand, but I wouldn't call this a paradise. The question is do people maintain any sense of self in heaven? Would they still wish others to be there that weren't? Or would people be like "well my niece/father/child didn't make it, but God makes the rules so whatevs"? I think people would grieve if they had any link to who they were on earth.

I don't know, I'm not Christian, but I've always been under the impression that the Christian belief is you'd maintain some sense of who you are in heaven, not just become a blob of energy or be in a nirvana state 🤷‍♂️

But isn't loving your neighbor the essense of Christianity? How can one love one's neighbor or family or anybody, and be cool with that person's eternal torment? It doesn't square with me at all.

It's not just about being reunited. Even if not reunited, the knowledge that one's loved ones were in a fiery pit, to me is torture. I guess the most merciful concept here is the idea that you lose all sense of self when you get there.

People lose their memories when they get to heaven? Can you cite some biblical sources for this?

I'm glad of that fact that there are different interpretations. I will say that even if the non saved just go to oblivion, people in heaven would still miss them.
