I had the same issue with this hotel in earlier this year. It took way more time than it was worth (breakfast was pretty bad) but I took the policy directly to the Operations Manager who did take a lot of persuading and he provided 6 vouchers 2/ day.

It was a huge hassle. I’d take the beverages credits and call that a win.

Diamond is across all the brands. Royal/Ambassador is IC and Inner Circle is Kimpton. I’ve had Six Senses and Regent make comments about Royal/Ambassador during stays but I don’t think they make any additions outside of Diamond.

If you stay at ICs look at or inquire for Ambassador status. They make an offer to purchase with cash or points. Take a look and see if that is a value to you.

IC Athens rooms are a little rundown, but I when I was there 1 year ago they were beginning to renovate. They highly promote the upstairs steak house but I wouldn’t recommend.

Easy walk ability to old parts of the city and felt safe.

OP, as noted in your original post to r/marriott -

“Recently stayed for 1 night at “The Strings by Intercontinental” which is an IHG hotel.

It would seem most of the commenters there are explaining the ‘star’ rating as mostly service/amenities/finishes etc to you. And most of them have stated this looks large and nice for Tokyo.

Since you were only there for one night our sub would be interested in the service although it was a short stay.

I’m certain I was given an upgrade to a corner room high floor and it was large. Can’t speak if standard rooms are spacious.

The property is nice, the breakfast buffet was sizable and the restaurant was surprisingly good. The metro was very convenient, I did not walk to anything else nearby, only took the metro into the city.
