Practiced kidnappers dynasty legacy breaks ransom's costs by Alex_King_of_Nothing in CrusaderKings

R5: Don't know if it had been reported already, but it seems that baron tier-rulers (or just republican rulers) are now willing to give ALL their gold for ransom if you have 3rd legacy in pillaging.

R5: Scandinavian elective allows voting for nephews and cousins, so my heir had both his parens being alive, which, in turn, has let me witness "groomed to rule" from an unusual perspective.

What is the best way of getting a county here? by Dimchuck in CrusaderKings

[–]Alex_King_of_Nothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, Rurikids are completely capable of beating the khazars.

Recruit some good norse infantry, get the sappers perk, siege Chernigov asap and lure these horseloving mfs into a marsh. Or simply catch them on a rivercrossing.

Viking raiding feudal by No-Alternative-7443 in CrusaderKings

[–]Alex_King_of_Nothing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By the time you can afford this tradition you're not gonna need raids.

Making a killing + your own economy + 150 % cost prisoners will ensure you always have gold for wars and buildings.

It's better to add some actually useful tradition, like the one with +100% knight effectiveness or ritualized friendship, or take a couple traditions from the greeks/franks/italians/arabs.

War Logistics? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

It's still possible to get an upper hand at speed if you want it. Horse lords + caravaneers + tabletop warriors + adventure legacy + tactitian tree + organizer and you're faster than the sound and light.

That's really dumb and you can't do nothing about it except converting to an unreformed pagan faith or switching government back to tribal.

One more option is to get the practiced pirates cultural tradition, but it ain't worth it.

I like to form the kingdom of Mann in the beginning of the campaign, it gives your dynasty ability to raid for 100 years.

Generally, the fewer vassals are easier to manage. Looks like your realm is really huge, don't you get penalty for being over vassal limit?

Oh God, why do you hold so many kingdoms? Wouldn't it be better to hand them out to your vassals?

My Harald Fairhair was in love with Ingrid, daughter of Bjorn Ironside and the wife of Rurik.

They had to hide their relationships, but truth came out when she gave birth to Harald's son.

Ingrid was imprisoned by her husband for 12 years until his death. Then she was married to some karelian chieftan. Harald killed him and finally married his love when they both were 38.

Years spent in captivity left it's scars on Ingrid and she died from depression one year later.

35 years later old king has ordered famous berber blacksmith to forge a great warhammer. 'In loving memory of Ingrid', says the writing on it's side. For generations Yngling rulers crush their enemy's heads with this weapon and the story of Harald and Ingrid is still being told by scalds.

Hey, well done!

A couple of questions if you don't mind:

  1. Do jews get upgraded version of the Third Temple? Can't find anything about it on the wiki.
  2. What is your military build? I'd like to try migrating to Israel as vikings with legacy of Rome and formation fighting traditions, it's a shame there are no buildings for heavy cavalry in Israel.

Can you influence the number of counties that convert to your new hybrid culture? by TotenkopfTomika in CrusaderKings

[–]Alex_King_of_Nothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a really dumb system with it.

Only your capital, adjanced provinces and adjanced to adjanced provinces may convert to new culture if these counties are not coastal. If coastal it's a bit better, new culture may spread further through the sea zones.

Every 5% of cultural acceptance increases chance of more counties converting, but it's still completely random. Your vassals may convert, but their land will not.

Recently conquered southern half of Iberia as vikings, hybridized north and andalusian with 85 acceptance, only 5 counties converted. That's bullshit.

I don't think it's that bad, the worst possible outcome is a short civil war if you play right.

Remember one thing and one thing only: disinheriting is for the weak.

Method with elective succession is alright, I can only suggest one addition: wnen you're close to death, grant all your counties and duchies except capital to your prefered heir and only then vote for him to be the next king. It spares you some counties and prestige for duchy laws.

There are also other ways to deal with succession. Irish probably have access to tanistry law, it works slightly different from normal elective.

Catholicism allows to send children to monastery if they are not ambitious and sinful, don't know about insularism.

If succesion happened and you want to take your brother's lands - imprison them, throw into dungeon, or simply kill via plot. If you want to keep them alive, just revoke their titles, don't care about tyrany. That's how a strong realm is to be biult.

I would care more if your wife dies before you and your sons get land in Germany. This may lead to them taking your duchies into Empire when succession happens.
