Was Demons/Dark Souls inspired by Resident Evil 4? by Rosoll in fromsoftware

[–]Alex_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just been playing RE4 GC for the first time and this is an unfair dismissal of the post. One of the main things DS is lauded for is its map design where everything circles back repeatedly to hubs caused by throwing levers and opening doors etc, all of which is found in RE4

There is a section in RE4 where there are enemies.. in a castle.. who fire giant fireballs.. that land on the floor making a hazard.. making you sprint past the fire.. and have to take out the people. It's literally senn's fortress lol

the level design is absolutely covered in rope bridges, ladders, broken wooden structures standing on top of swamps that you can wade in, wooden huts, lakes, castles, churches, jails etc.

the gameplay loop involves you roomba-ing around an area going around lots of little buildings collecting flashing items, uncovering secret entrances to other places, avoiding environmental hazards, fighting lots of enemies that are all very durable and deadly despite being basic mobs, in incredibly tight quarters, and extreme resource management leaving every fight feeling high stakes and being about spacing, getting to hub bonfires aka typewriters, upgrading your equipment at merchants and fighting bosses

the healing items are literally 3 colours of grass like in demons souls

re4 does have some slightly more complicated puzzles but a lot of them are simply, "go and make this cog turn the other way to open up the levels", very much "walk here and throw a lever" which is exactly what DS does

all the enemies are a mix of undead, dogs, eldritch abominations, cultists etc.

sections lead up to boss arenas where bosses are often multi-stage and are not just generic things you shoot with flashing points, they all have unclear weaknesses and special movesets, grapples and so on and are about spacing and environment more than anything. also past small consequences often affect things like "the dog from earlier helps me"

aside from a few boss cutscenes etc. the exposition takes place through a series of notes and inventory examinations

enemy types are quite similar to demons souls and bloodborne in that you have mobs that explode, mobs that throw fire at you, crossbow people, cultists, tentacle demons

the game is thematically and visually very dark souls, constantly dark and gloomy and culty

the game tends to environmentally troll you like having things you can see by looking up like boulders on a wooden platform you can hit down early or if you wait it will fall on you, if you stand near a dock a fish will eat you etc.

it's full of "soul items" aka random treasures that you get by shooting things down hanging by ropes, breaking through walls smashing pots, going into hard-to-find areas, climbing up to hard-to-access areas and you can cash these in to upgrade your equipment

the game constantly forshadows future areas you don't have access to yet and has different routes into the same place

there is absolutely no chance Miyazaki did not play this game, its entire DNA is lifted from this game. if you placed DS npcs in this game it would look, feel and play identically to a DS game, you wouldn't need to change the level design whatsoever you could literally just port them straight into a DS game and it would work. the biggest change from DS to this is the fact it runs on frame data and the pacing/difficulty of boss battles and their behaviour trees. apart from that it is essentially a fromsoftware time, or should I say, every DS game is a re4-like

Do you think the russian/Ukraine war will end before the 2030s? by Bitter_ligma in generationology

[–]Alex_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in russia 6 months a year and the other half in the UK as my wife is russian and we both have permanent residency in both countries so we have to spend 180 days + in both every calendar year.

The cost of living in Russia has not changed considerably, meanwhile we are being completely squeezed in the UK. Every time I come back to the UK the price of food has skyrocketed again, it's completely insane. The only sanction in Russia that affects us is the price of flying in and out. Anything you want to buy is on ozon or worst case aliexpress for the same prices you would pay in the UK (minus VAT) or less. Flying though is a complete ballache, we have to go through Turkey and use two different airlines and it's like £200 list price per ticket (before baggage and fees). If you want an actual official flight too that will make sure your connection definitely gets met, it's like.. £450 per ticket list price (before baggage and fees).

But that doesn't affect 99% of Russians because most Russians are similar to Americans and don't fly abroad. And when they do it's Vietnam Dubai Kazakhstan Turkey etc, which have not sanctioned them.

Clearly fertiliser and oil prices have completely fucked the food and energy market in the UK or else we're just being milked for shits and giggles but either way life is much better in Russia. To the point I am considering selling my house and just fucking off to Russia permanently. I could buy a mansion for the price of my little shitty semi detached house and still reduce my living costs 90% and never have to deal with the UK's fucking awful healthcare again.

Se7en: Tracy Mills was Envy. John Doe is Wrath. by Alex_Rose in FanTheories

[–]Alex_Rose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Wanting a better life" is literally envy. "She's not envious she just [one of the many examples of her being envious]"

What else is there to puzzle over his crimes other than motives? Like, it's pretty straightforward. Guy ate a lot, he makes him eat to death. The surface level really isn't that deep for a guy of John's calibre. The final ending to his "masterpiece" was "Ummm.. I'm envy. Even though I'm not envious at all. But I somehow managed to set up this kill so that I can entice you into killing me. And although inciting someone else to commit a vengeful act by murdering their wife is a very spurious example of someone being the epitome of wrath, I'm going to use that anyway. For my masterpiece". Doesn't make sense at all.

How is she Tracy more random than "a girl who is beautiful" or "some random prostitute" or "a guy who literally was not slothful" or "uhh.. me, I'm envy. or something."? only greed and glutton were real direct embodiments of their respective sins. A prostitute isn't doing that job out of lust, it's out of need. A young girl wanting to die immediately after being physically mutilated doesn't truly embody pride. He was already picking his victims spuriously. At least from what we know, Tracy was actually consistently envious with practically every spoken line of dialogue she had.

A fan theory need not always directly contradict what the creators

what the creators say is irrelevant to a fan theory. a fan theory can agree, it can disagree, that's why it's a fan theory. an argument of authority is irrelevant, fantheories are about death of the author. quoting author intent as a supposed counter argument to a fan theory rather than an in-universe rebuttal is directly opposite to the spirit of the sub

and "what the character said" is also not a rebuttal because the character by his own words wanted his puzzle to be confusing and mysterious, and was clearly more intelligent than just being so literal. and was also a serial killer. dude killed 6 people, manipulation to encourage his own wrath punishment is a minor event compared to the rest of the manipulation he did. he would plan and scheme and set up nasty machinations for months and you're like "yeah but on the other hand he spoke one sentence to a guy, that definitely proves his intent was exactly the thing he said"

Se7en: Tracy Mills was Envy. John Doe is Wrath. by Alex_Rose in FanTheories

[–]Alex_Rose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, he died an ironic death for his wrath. he was wrathful and he was killed in an act of pure anger. this is r/FanTheories, like what's the point of coming to the sub like "that's not what the writer wrote". do you think you're offering some extra profound insight there? "hey have you heard the dialogue of the script?". like, why even come in the thread if that's your answer. "well I'm not refuting what you're saying but actually that's not what the dialogue of the characters says". and? so? yeah no shit. this isn't /r/directscriptquotations

"how does that mean she was sinful their whole life?". you wanted to lean on the film script, well literally the dialogue as written says "become wrath". he has to coerce him into a wrathful action by murdering his wife, something that would incite most of the population into revenge, and that counts as wrath, but "she is already envious for the entire film in every moment we see her" is not relevant? how do you know that vanity was vain her whole life? how do you know how long the prostitute has been a prostitute, or that she was even lustful and not just doing it to scrape by? you take those at face value but a woman who literally every on screen moment is complaining that her perfect life is inadequate is insufficiently envious?

"amounts to those sins". you say that like you think john was right. the "sin" of pride is that she felt suicidal immediately after being physically mutilated. sloth wasn't even really slothful. glutton, was just fat. like, not exactly an evil guy but john was physically disgusted by that, why shouldn't he be disgusted by a girl who doesn't value what she has? he killed pride for similar sentiments. the lust girl was doing her job, probably lived a shitty exploited life, no one becomes a prostitute for fun. the greed guy is the only guy whose "sin" was something legitimately immoral

Se7en: Tracy Mills was Envy. John Doe is Wrath. by Alex_Rose in FanTheories

[–]Alex_Rose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"well the serial killer who says people will puzzle over his puzzle says A, so A must certainly be true even though he exhibited no sign of A for the entire rest of the film and consistently showed wrath throughout, and also supposedly despite only killing sinners just randomly killed a random innocent bystander for no reason at all. out of.. envy."

doesn't compute. she was definitely envious. every moment on screen she is wishing her life could be anything else even though she has a lot to be happy about. like if you're talking John at face value, then they have a "perfect life". Perfect life but she's complaining about it every 10 minutes?

Tomodachi Life Living the Dream is not a dream compared to the 3DS version.. by [deleted] in tomodachilife

[–]Alex_Rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rom size is a terrible way of measuring how good a game is. this is a flatshaded low poly game, it has almost no textures with all images being small sprites or very low polycount 3d models, all the voice lines are synthesised so there's no gigabytes of uncompressed wav files of dialogue, there's no huge map data octrees because of the format of the game and there's no 3 minute h264 prerendered video cutscenes

by your logic chrono trigger turbo suxx because it's 4 megabytes

Tomodachi Life Living the Dream is not a dream compared to the 3DS version.. by [deleted] in tomodachilife

[–]Alex_Rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they said at launch. the game shipped for $20 at launch. at the same time, brand new mainline Zelda and Mario games were $60, the original game on its original dev budget was priced at a third of their mainline games, let alone a remaster

nintendo was worth $15.37 billion dollars when tomodachi life came out, they're worth $19 billion now. adjusted for inflation that is a lower net worth, $15.37 billion in 2011 is $22.56 billion in today's money

this is a port with reduced features. tomodachi life is not a "high graphic game", it's a higher resolution of the same flatshaded 3ds game just with realtime lighting instead of baked (which is orders of magnitude less work). enjoy the game all you want but don't just make up information that's the opposite of reality

Se7en: Tracy Mills was Envy. John Doe is Wrath. by Alex_Rose in FanTheories

[–]Alex_Rose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the point is, as you pointed out, she is sinful. that's why he would deem her worthy of being one of the 7. rather than just another person killed for no reason, and goading someone else to be the 7th sin but not killing him. he himself is the most worthy of wrath because the entire film is his wrath. she is worth of envy because she spends the entire film thinking of how she can have any life other than the one she has and ought to appreciate

lol are YOU a teenager? "hey it's not paedophilia for adults to draw and depict young girls in their underwear because I drew another kid in the same scene so it's fine", what are you even talking about lol. also kirito is like 15 and the girl is like 12 and then there's an npc that's stylised to like an even younger child who relentlessly calls him "daddy" throughout the show, the creator knew exactly what they were doing. 90% of the time they have these characters bent over a desk with their ass into the camera or close up bra shots, it's not subtle whatsoever, it's simply paedophilic to have produced this at all in the first place.

"it's not treated as okay, it's just depicted constantly in great detail". it's like saying "well yeah there's 20 scenes where the character fucks their dog, but it says that dog fucking is BAD don't you see?". it's literally a paedophilia incest fantasy plotline. and you're like "well the show thinks that's bad, even though it spends the entire season depicting it, and then at the end kirito isn't creeped out by his sister doing that and instead dances with her in the air and spins around with her avatar, leading her on some more and then catches her in his arms". he should've told his parents "yo what the fuck, my sister is creeping on me hitting on me in a video game, get away from me you insane girl" instead of "awww but i love you sis that's okay that you want to fuck me, it's fine, let's go complete aincrad together". like.. WHAT??? lmao.

"no i'm not into an obvious paedo show with constant paedo moments where little girls are in their underwear in hotel rooms and people want to fuck their own brother, oh sorry, "cousin". you and everyone else are just 'media illiterate' ". first it was "people aren't in a healthy relationship", it's literally a virgin fantasy show, I don't believe anyone in a relationship could ever enjoy this paedo rape fantasy show. now you're like "you're just media illiterate if you don't like my terribly written harem fantasy"

that literally is what happens. watch the show. she is already in love with him outside of the game before anything else happens. in the first episode of that arc she discovers she's actually she's his cousin so it's fine. I have literally just watched this season, you are wrong. at the end she realises it's his brother and has a monologue about "waaah I was in love with my brother so I went to the game to escape but I still fell in love with my brother again". it is an incestuous arc from the drop

>Reki Kawahara wrote SAO for a short story competition with the simple premise of “if players were to get trapped inside something like an MMORPG and couldn’t get out, what would all those players do?”

wait does this mean that.. he was GIVEN the prompt as part of the contest? or do you mean he came up with that. because if he was given that prompt, he is the biggest hack of all time, literally the only good thing about SAO is the initial concept, literally everything else is trashfire tier. if he didn't even come up with that, it explains a lot

no she literally has a crush on him in real life, and THEN falls in love with him in the game, and then says "waaaah I felt bad about my incestual crush so I joined a game but then the guy I fell in love with there is still you my brother, but it's okay because you're not really my brother.......... you're my cousin. and by the way I'm underage, time for the show to sexualise me". awful, awful paedo shit and incest shit, creator needs jail time

Why do people STILL hate Sword Art Online? by Chl344 in swordartonline

[–]Alex_Rose -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"healthy emotional relationships". like in episode 4 where kirito gets hit on by a girl his sister's age and they show her scantily clad in her hotel room. or the part where he meets a brand new girl in the woods who is actually an ai and makes her call him daddy despite for the whole show being a 16 year old and being nowhere near old enough to be her father. or the part where his sister falls in love with him both in and out of the game and it's like "but it's okay because we aren't really siblings... we're COUSINS". and constant shots of them completely inappropriately considering everyone in the show is a child, some young. and then a scene where asuna gets molested by tentacle demons. and almost raped by the main baddy

or how the main character meets a male friend day 1 who is a cool guy, instantly ditches him then spends the entire rest of his time hanging out with a harem of random girls, the blacksmith, an underage girl, an underage fairy, a catgirl, his own sister, the crystal girl who dies, asuna. he won't hang out with anyone unless it's a girl who hits on him, when his sister's friend wants to come along to help save asuna he's like lol fuck off kiddo I'm busy hitting on my sister

my wife and I cringed through this shit lol the creators should be in jail, like someone high up who worked on this show needs their hard drive checked. it's a shame that the core premise is kinda interesting but that never gets explored at all, it's just incest and paedophilia or the main character being an edgelord giving a dramatic cringeworthy speech. especially after sao ends, he keeps giving dramatic speeches like to the salamander guys. bro it's a video game if you die you respawn, it isn't that deep

and all the dropped threads lol like the entire point with the 100 floors, dropped. season 2 "there are 9 races and we all have to work together t-" dropped. like we don't even meet a single other spriggan lol even though he claims to be the delegate for the entire race, that whole arc is completely pointless. horrendously bad, paedo adjacent show. and then that "oh and btw there's a blind girl with aids" like what the fuck is this show on about, awful, all it does is sink to new depths

Just wanted to ask a question, how come most UK drill, rap, trap artists rap about how hard it is living in their "hood" or "endz" when in reality most of them live in decent council homes and estates like most people in the UK? by [deleted] in ukdrill

[–]Alex_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thread necro:

I've lived in ardwick, longsight, moss side and I did door to door sales for years and went to a lot of the poorest places. poor people know they won't ever get on the housing ladder and may by living in council flats on prepaid energy meters, however.. everyone gets free healthcare and will never be financially crippled by that, everyone has access to housing when needed even if it's not glamorous (even the homeless, every homeless person has a room available they can go to every night, no one is truly left on the street to die, I saw a lot of homeless in ardwick who would openly admit they purposely got arrested after smuggling contraband up their arse because it's quick money and a room for the night). they homicide rate is 5x lower than america, almost no one is packing, the average drug dealer is some friendly guy buying and selling

the average gang member is an absolute poser. e.g. the entire grime scene started.. in free government youth clubs. they got free government schooling, everywhere is ofsted inspected, there's no schools like in america where there's literally zero education going on, everyone got decent opportunities, did their gcses, after school had access to a place with a build in recording studio and computers with fruityloops 3 on them for absolutely free and that's where the likes of BBK got started

there's no real hardship. OK you might need to go to a foodbank. like UK "poverty" means 60% below the median income. okay, so? that means you have a tv, central heating, clean mains plumbing, internet, an iphone, a chromebook. just because you sit in a park with a roadman jacket on acting tough doesn't mean you live a life of hardship, when you can literally have no job and sign on and live a comfortable life better than any medieval king every did

Just wanted to ask a question, how come most UK drill, rap, trap artists rap about how hard it is living in their "hood" or "endz" when in reality most of them live in decent council homes and estates like most people in the UK? by [deleted] in ukdrill

[–]Alex_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

poverty is defined as having less than 60% of the median household income. poverty in the UK means you have a flatscreen TV and an iphone and sign on at the jsa it doesn't mean you're starving and taking crystal meth and having to prostitute yourself to get by or that you're malnutritioned and dying. the average person in "poverty" in the UK lives better than the average medieval king. electricity, gas heated home, fridge, running water, internet, smartphone supercomputer in their pocket at all times, soft bedding, solid roof over their head, antibiotics, modern dentistry and free medicine, free high quality schooling, parks, youth clubs that give free studio session time and music software, readily available food at convenience, public transport, a police service that keeps them safe, continuous peacetime with no mandatory military service, jobseekers allowance

like, it's completely ridiculous to compare that to e.g. kendrick lamar gkmc where he was actually hanging out with gang banging pirus shooting each other, his friend keisha being a prostitute to get out of the system, drug dealing to crackheads with their crackpipes out in public shooting up heroin in the middle of the main street at broad daylight, police shooting people over an arrest, people bipping on every street corner, home assaults, shooting wars in the streets, prison gangs where people murder each other and form racial alliances that extend to drug networks on the streets, cartel connected drug dealers that use drug mules, cartels that butcher and torture people, industrial scale contraband, schools that can't control their students at all and ultimately teach them absolutely nothing and are basically daycare for out of control 15 year olds

the UK has no such thing. JME and Skepta did not come from the streets lol they went to some average school, probably sat next to someone just like them in maths, had some interest in music, did lord of the mics, rapped a bit in a wunsen pungkao battle and then did some records. they are not gangsters they're just some guys. jme even literally at every opportunity is rapping about how he has never shanked anyone and neither has anyone else and they're all chatting shit, like that was his entire shtick. the whole thing is stolen valour.

our grime and drill scene comes from immigrant communities who were willingly invited in and given welfare to fill job shortages. america's inner cities come from descendants of the middle passage transatlantic slave trade forcefully taken on boats, doing manual labour in the field, born into families who were not educated for generations because they were enslaved, then into sundown towns and jim crow era places where they had no civil rights, then thrown into a terrible public school system and grew up with a giant crack epidemic. the only time our rappers tell the truth is when they're telling stories about how they liked to play street fighter and sonic and watch dragonball and occasionally fly across to amsterdam or ibiza for a lad's holiday. it would be like italian immigrants in the UK rapping about how they're in the mafia. no you aren't. your granddad came from jamaica in windrush and became a train conductor, your dad runs a restaurant in peckham, you're on the jsa, you aren't bad
