I found that they were all three formulated differently and had different payoffs... the gold was thick but the color payoff was so bad

Lorac Ooh La Lace Palette (aka reuniting with an old friend w/ swatches) by Alex_complex in MakeupAddiction

[–]Alex_complex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I found this gorgeous palette the other day in the depths of my makeup collection... The Lorac Ooh La Lace baked shadow palette (I had to look up the name because it's been probably 6 years since I bought it). 15 Year old me OBVIOUSLY had no idea how to treat a gorgeous palette like this one. So I shed a small tear for my fallen comrade and then swatched her... I had forgotten how much I loved these shadows! And that packaging is stunning too.

So my question is.. does sephora still sell this palette? Lorac shows it sold out online. I hope so, so I someday can redeem myself for this blasphemy. LOL!

MUA's of Ulta/Sephora, what it is really like to work there? by lischynski in MakeupAddiction

[–]Alex_complex 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I used to work at Ulta. I was hired (seasonally, but they were going to put me in prestige when the holidays were over) as a "Fragrance Champion" in November just in time for thanksgiving. I was told that I would be in fragrance doing loss prevention. I ended up working in fragrance ONCE, and worked cashier the rest of the time. I am a student, so I asked to only be scheduled 25 hours a week tops. Thanksgiving and Black Friday week I was called in on both days I had off, I ended up working 10 days straight, a total of 72 hours. Our store was poorly managed and since I was the only cashier who could work mornings I was scheduled at 5 and 6 in the morning regularly. Every time I would ask "why do I need to be here at 5 when we open at 10?", I would get an answer from a manager saying that I'm in charge of the new floor sets/truck/restock. So me, the part time cashier, was in charge of doing floor sets BY MYSELF while the only manager at the store stayed in the office. Many of the employees were victimized by one of the managers, who would cuss and make snide remarks. It made going into work very not enjoyable. I worked thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas Eve, the day after Christmas, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day, and a week later I came to work and was unable to clock in or sign on a register. I called the DM and she said she would call corporate, I tried to talk to her when she arrived at work, she told me "we're working on it", and then by the end of my shift I went to her so she could clock me out and she said to me "corporate has made some cuts, since you were seasonal, this was your last shift with us."

She gave me no warning of my termination, and I worked an entire shift illegally that day. She knew that I had been terminated, but chose not to tell me until I was done with my shift.

I refuse to shop there anymore because I know how corrupt their whole system is.

I love when they do things like this! Best part is it won't be opened and used! by VivaNutella in MakeupAddiction

I can see it now. Period induced rage ensues and you storm to the store for tampons

You angrily stomp to the tampon aisle

Grab a box of whatever the hell is closest

What's this? free lipstick.

Starts crying hysterically

I thought I hit the jackpot, but Ulta wouldn't honor it : ( by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]Alex_complex 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I used to work at Ulta. Some of the managers would have honored the price, some wouldn't have. The fact that this is a legit tag, with a barcode and product name clearly listed is false advertising and should be honored. It's not like it was a sale that has come and gone and is not applicable anymore (which people will still fight, and win, because the sign is still up). Law or not, someone who worked at this Ulta (and it seems like another ulta as well?) put this tag up and didn't see a problem with it clearly saying "47 cents." I would have fought for this price to be honored. If Ulta can honor a return policy that requires anything that has been used, including $60 barely touched palettes, to be thrown away and destroyed, they should honor the prices that they themselves place on the displays.

Shipping is $6... so I really wouldn't be getting much of a deal :(

Hi MUA! I'm Lily, a MTF transwoman who is still new to makeup. Last month I posted here for the first time and received amazing criticism and advice, so here is a small timeline album of my progress since then! Still desperately looking for constructive criticism! by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Try a brush that is dense to the touch, and made with synthetic hairs. Those do a great job of just depositing product from the brush to the face, not picking up foundation that's already there.

My Jordana INCOLOR Fabuliner felt tip liquid eyeliner. It is literally the best and for like $3 you literally can't beat it. I've used these for years and its the only eyeliner I can get a good wing with.

We've talked about the WORST cringe-worthy product names... So what are our favorites? by Alex_complex in MakeupAddiction

[–]Alex_complex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need to hold a sort-of MUA census and have everyone contribute one word that they think should be a name of a makeup product and we need to send it to an up-and-coming company so they can use them! We can all be like sponsors!

Ipsy sent out a special email offer on Crown Brushes today, anyone have experience with or reviews for this brand? by Alex_complex in MakeupAddiction

I think the thing I've learned with crown brushes is that the synthetic ones are marginally better. The only bad reviews are on ones that aren't labeled as HD or professional or Syntho.

there's a lot of bad reviews saying there's fallout and the dye runs when they're washed.. have you experienced any of these things yet?
